YEAR 838

THE TIPS OF HER HAIR TOUCH THE FLOOR AS SHE slumps on her bed with a tired sigh, her head almost hanging from the edge of the queen sized cushion.

"My lady, I'm afraid it is not yet time for your recess." An elderly woman stood in the middle of the open door, her face just as tired as the younger girl who stubbornly shakes her head in denial.

"But i'm so tired, Madam Beatriqè," The young girl grumbles, scratching the side of her face, easing the itch forming on her porcelain skin. "I haven't even sat all day."

The elderly woman chuckles lightly before walking inside and sitting beside the girl's laid out frame, patting the mattress. "A lady does not sprung on her bed all day." She reminds her, making the girl sit up properly.

Beatriqè placed a hand over the young heiress' head, "A lady does not allow tiredness to weaken her posture."

"Oh, but I don't want to be a lady!"

"It's in your blood, young one. You'll always be a lady." The maid teased, looking at the child dearly as if she were her own. It has simply been a routine—the young lady would be woken up early, fed, taught for hours, and then when she would tire, she'd run for the stairs whenever the maids were unfocused for a split moment, looking for a place to hide and rest for at least an hour.

However, the head of the young girl's caretakers, Beatriqè Corazon, has been watching over the girl for years and has known her every scheme and tricks. The elderly woman in her fifties found it amusing, so she would often pretend to not see the girl hiding inside closets or the gaps between the halls, allowing the child to rest for a few minutes before she would finally take her back to her tutor.

"I'm only eight. I want to play with the other children. Why don't they get to be studying all the time? I'm famished—"

"Don't you want to be just like your mother?"

The girl's eyes lit up and she quickly nods enthusiastically, a grin forming on her lips. The tired young girl suddenly felt lighter, as if she did not even feel an ounce of heavyweight on top of her small shoulders from the poised character she is expected to be.
