2030. The new president had promised change, and she delivered. There had been numerous changes to the United States within the first week of Ms. Delre being sworn in, the greatest of which being the change to the social norms. Before, the straight people were safe. Now, they lived in fear.
Everything happened so fast. Heterosexual couples were found and arrested, brought to the Stocks, and pummeled to death by apple-throwers. There were droves of them, and of course, people always tried to lie and pretend. Fakers were sentenced to the electric chair, while others were simply ambushed by hoards of apples until they lay motionless on the ground.
Strange people were supposed to be safe, and they were for the most part, but there were always bound to be problems with people lying about their sexualities. To guarantee that a couple(or group) was not heterosexual, tests had to be run.
Oftentimes, people were forced to be intimate in front of cameras or employers to be sure that they were, in fact, strange ones. If they refused to do anything, they did not receive the discount, the job, the request, the favor, the preference. There was no other way to prove that they were part of the lgbtq+ other than completing the act. At least, that's how it was at the time.
"Stupid girl. She's ruined everything," Rein grumbled to her girlfriend, Suski. "Hey, Rein, it's okay."
"No, it's not," Rein replied. "I know Ms. Delre's got good intentions, but she doesn't realize the harm she's caused by doing this. Sure, it wasn't good before, but now it's worse."
"How come you care so much anyway, babe? We're finally on top, now." Suski asked, tilting her head ever so slightly to the side.
"In order to be better than them, we must not make the same mistakes that they did. We must never live with the idea that only certain sexualities are okay."
"Why not?"
"Because," Rein replied gravely, "we should be able to love whoever we want without fear."
