Chapter 12

The Coin Dealer

Who is this man? Why did he went that far to save us, despite the fact that we're strangers in each others' eyes?

Does he want something from us? Owing to the fact that this world is in constant war, there's no denying that he have a hidden agenda of his own; the possibility of acting beyond malice at this point of time is at its peak.

Juudaime reverted to his normal form, stood beside Zep and emitted his usual presence that wouldn't make anyone mistake him as plain. "State your name."

The corner of the man's lips rose; his left arm travelled across his chest; he cupped his chin using his right hand. "I see. At a time like this, I wouldn't blame anyone who act cautious in front of a mysterious fellow. Though I recommend you to treat me as normal, for I can say, myself, that I'm not your enemy, nor I aspire to be one."

Alter who have been patting the ground in search for something has stepped forward with his wand at the ready on his grip. "What is it that you seek from us? To the best of my knowledge, the act of saving in times of war is not to be considered as genuine."

The man scoffed, then put his hands on his hips. "You have enough knowledge despite the fact that you, lots, are still kids. But rest assured, I mean no harm."

"How can we trust your words? We're aware that those words coming out from your mouth might be rotten as your core." he narrowed his eyes at me; his lips parted in amusement.

"It seems to me that you're rather odd. Make yourself known, child."

Child? Me?

I narrowed my eyes as well, but that made him increased his amusement. "I don't have the slightest reason to identify myself to you, Mister. Would you take a step backward, then might as well do the act of never-showing-your-face-again? We desire nothing but peace; if you acted for the reason of returning the favor to you, then we're afraid that we can't do anything more than to shoo you away."

The man lowered his head; a silent laugh became audible as the upper half of his face darkened, then after a minute, that laugh of his turned into a chortle. "You lots are interesting! I must commend you for your—"

"Are you trying to insult us?!" Zep, Juudaime and Alter asked in unison.

The man wiped the back of his forefinger against the corner of his eyes. "Insults you? No! I would never dream of belittling kids like you; you're the promise of tomorrow, and destroying it is beyond my desire."

"We asked you to leave, but you chose to stay; it seems to us that you've accepted death." the ground started shaking after Zep stated those words.

"Do we have to be reminded that we're in the middle of a war?" the corner of Juudaime's lips rose.

Alter threw his wand in the air, then grabbed it without averting his eyes at the man. "Which means that we can rampage all we want."

A breeze circled Zep's. "Go all out."

Thick smokes started coating Juudaime's body. "Show no mercy."

I unsheathed the daggers on my back, made metal noises with them, then licked its blade as my eyes sharpened. "Without holding back."

The man let out a chuckle; he crossed his arms across his chest as his lips flashed a grin. "It appears to me that we have come to an awful misunderstanding; I mean no harm, but you, lots, are persistent; you made me flipped my switch."
