"Okay," Gemma said. "Go by the door and take off your shirt.
Finn looked at Gemma and raised an eyebrow. "On our first date? I'm not that kind of guy."
Gemma felt the heat rise in her cheeks. "Your bright shirt," she muttered.
Finn laughed as he did what she told him. So she's not as immune as she pretends.
Gemma started to take off her bright shirt when two older women walked by and looked up at the Cathedral. By their accents Gemma could tell they were from America "Isn't it wonderful, Doris," the first woman said.
Doris agreed but neither of them moved.
"Come on, come on," Gemma uttered under her breath."Why don't we sit here for awhile and look at the lights," the lady said
.
"I thought you would never suggest it, Mary. My feet are killing me. We must have walked miles today.""But isn't it wonderful, Doris. Imagine us in Paris."
The two women took a spot on the bench close to where Gemma was sitting."My, my what a beautiful sight. Who would have thought it. Sure beats Dallas."
Oh, no, Gemma thought. If she didn't do something quick Doris and Mary would be there for the long haul.
Then it hit her.
"Doris? Doris Schwimmer?" Gemma said in her best Texan accent. "Don't you recognize me, Doris?"Doris and Mary clutched their bags close to their chest and looked at Gemma. "I'm afraid you have me mixed up with someone else, dear." Doris said.
"No. No. I'm Janie Wilson, from Beaumont. Don't you recognize me. I'm Zelda's
daughter." Gemma threw her hands up in the air. "Why everyone knows Zelda.
"
Mary leaned close to Doris and whispered. "Maybe we should leave.
"
"You are Doris from Texas aren't you? Imagine meeting a fellow Texan here in Paris. Wait until my momma hears about this. I'm sure you are the one in the photo with my mom, Zelda. I couldn't be mistaken that much. Here let me show you." Gemma dug through her satchel. But Mary and Doris stood up. "My name is Doris and I'm from Texas, but I'm sorry dear, I don't know any Zelda," Doris said before Mary dragged her off.
Gemma could hear Finn laughing from behind her. She quickly took off her bright pink shirt and stepped behind the lights."Nice save, Janie." Finn laughed.
Gemma grinned and handed him her satchel. "Here. Stand in front of me while I picked the lock."
Three minutes later Gemma and Finn were inside the Cathedral. "See that wasn't too bad was it."
"I can't believe we broke into the Notre Dame Cathedral."
"We are not out of the woods yet. There are 387 steps to the top of the tower and we have to climb them all.
"
Forty five minutes later they reached the top. Finn bent over and placed his hands on his knees, breathing deeply he said, "They need to put in an elevator."Gemma took out a couple bottled waters from her satchel and handed one to Finn. After taking a big gulp she said, "but that fantastic view is worth every step we climbed."
Finn stood next to her and for one brief moment Gemma wished she was just a normal seventeen year old on vacation in Paris.
"Right," she said and turned toward the bell. "We have a job to do. We need to look for a marking or casing Something that could lead us to the spearhead"
