Chapter Twelve: St. Katherine's Fine

After arriving at our hotel Gemma and Finn stored their gear and headed to St. Katherine's where they were to meet Priest Dominic.

They pulled up in front of the church. "It's gorgeous." Gemma said.

It was huge with two tall steeples towering over a beautiful brown and tan marble structure. Several steps led up to two sets of tall double brown doors. Most of the windows were stain glass with various pictures. Gemma wondered if the inside was as beautiful as the outside. She didn't have to wait for long.

"Ms. Stone, We've been expecting you," the Priest said.

Gemma and Finn exchanged a look. "Expecting me?"

"We were notified by a Mr. Hall that you would be here." His English was pretty good but heavily accented.

Gemma smiled. Gordon knew what the clue was but like he always did he let her figure it out for herself.

"You are welcome to tour St. Katherine's, of course, but if your wanting the history I'm afraid your going to have to wait for the Archbishop. He should be in office in an hour."

"We will wait," Finn said.

"As you wish. I will be in my office if you need me. The archbishop's office is on the other side of the rectory."

"Thank you," Gemma said.

When they walked into the chapel the first thing Gemma saw was the enormous beautiful polished pipe organ at the front of the sanctuary. Only out shined by the polished marble statue of Jesus nailed tp a gold cross.

Gemma loved old churches. So much history at your finger tips.

"Do you think we will find what we are working for," Finn asked.

"The clue said Katherine underground. We are at St. Katherine's , maybe they have a basement or something."

They made their way down to the front of the sanctuary and stopped at the collection box.

"Where do you think we should look," Finn asked.

Gemma shook her head. "We don't even know if the underground is connected to St. Katherine's. They could have made restorations since the 1930's."

"Maybe the clue is somewhere her in the church?" Finn suggested.

"Let's go through there,"Gemma said pointing toward a door on the left of the sanctuary.

Finn opened the big heavy oak doors that led to an enormous hallway with rooms on each side. They walked down the hall. "Let's try that room."
