Chapter 2

"Wei WuXian! Is that you?"

Wei WuXian can't believe his eyes. His childhood friend from middle school was here. He had lost touch with her ever since she moved to another state to attend high school. Wei WuXian had asked for her number to stay in touch with her, but she must have changed her number and forgotten to tell him because his text messages never went through anymore.
"MianMian..., it's so great to see you again!" He walks forward to hug her and she returns it.
"It's great to see you too! I saw you during orientation night. I tried to go to you then, but there were way too many people. And then we all got split into separate groups and I didn't see you again."

Wei WuXian blinks.

"You saw me at orientation?" He remembers that night distinctly. There had been a program going on about facing your fears and Nie Huaisang had dared him to go on and sing in exchange for him treating him to bubble tea for their first month of school. Of course, Wei WuXian had agreed to this, considering how great the offer was. He had gone up and sung a few songs, showed off some of his dance moves until he was red in the face, both from embarrassment and from the heat.

"I wish I had seen you," Wei WuXian says wistfully. "We haven't talked in so long...did you change your number? I haven't been able to reach you since a few years back."

"Oh I did! I'm so sorry. I lost half my contacts after I broke my phone. I should really have written them down on paper," She says sheepishly. They take out their phones to exchange numbers again.

"I'm planning on walking around campus for a bit, do you want to come with me? We can go get dinner afterwards."

"Sure!" They take the elevator down together and leave the building.

"The city is so beautiful! New York is amazing, isn't it?" MianMian says, staring around at the giant skyscrapers around them with wide eyes.
"It really is! Central Park is just a few minutes walk away too. If we ever have time, we have to explore the city!"

"Of course we should. It'd be a waste if we didn't visit Times Square or Central Park. Maybe we can even go to sneak a peek at Juilliard's campus."
"Huh? How come?" Wei WuXian stares at her.

"Well, the campus there is beautiful and they have performances there all the time. We may as well go take a look around," MianMian says. "Plus, all of the best restaurants are closer to Juilliard's campus than ours." They walk around campus, exploring each of the buildings.

"Wow look, this is where the liberal art classes are!" Wei WuXian points to one of the larger glass buildings. "I'm going to be taking most of my classes there. That reminds me, what are you studying?"
"Me? Oh, I'm studying Women's studies." A smirk crosses her face. "I bet you didn't expect it, huh?" Wei WuXian laughs.

"Oh of course not. The last time I saw you, we weren't even close to deciding our majors. I just knew I was never too good with math or science."
"You weren't that bad. You never failed algebra in middle school."

"I didn't exactly pass...it got worse in high school. Just ask Jiang Cheng." Wei WuXian slaps the walk signal button and twiddles his fingers as he waits.

"First, you should give my number to your siblings. I'm not sure if they still remember me. I was only ever close to you. And Jin ZiXuan."

Wei WuXian wrinkles his nose at the mention of that name. He wasn't sure how he felt about his adopted older sister being together with the future CEO of LanLing Tech. Jin ZiXuan, in high school, had always been surrounded by other random girls, not only because of his looks, but because people knew he was rich. After he started dating Jiang Yanli, Wei WuXian constantly heard other people talking about how Yanli wasn't good enough with him. He and Jiang Cheng barely held themselves back from punching those people in the face in the hallways.
