Monday morning, Wei WuXian wakes up around 9am so he can eat breakfast and attend his 10:30am writing class. Huaisang is not in the room when he wakes. When he had attended middle and high school, he despised getting up at 6:30am just to get to school on time when it started at 7:45am. Now that he is in college, he has the luxury of choosing what time to take his classes and he made sure not to choose any 8am classes. He stops by the Emperor's Smile to get coffee before heading to his class. He wished Huaisang was in the same English class as him, but they hadn't been able to do that due to conflicting schedules for their other classes. Additionally, it was more unlikely considering that his friend was a business major, they'd unlikely be in the same course.
"Hello there, may I sit here?" A young man wearing a light gray sweater gestures to the seat next to Wei WuXian.
"Of course." Wei WuXian smiles at him. "What's your name?"
"Jin Guangyao, but you can call me Meng Yao.""'Jin?'" Wei Wuxian says thoughtfully. "You don't happen to know Jin Zixuan, do you? The smile from Meng Yao's face seems to falter at the mention of this name.
"He's my half-brother actually," He says in a small voice. "My mom is divorced. I don't really talk to him much, but he is...kinder than my dad."
"I see." Wei Wuxian nods. "I attended high school with Jin Zixuan. You are very different from your brother. And I believe that is a good thing," Wei Wuxian adds quickly.
"I'm glad you think that."
The professor soon shows up and begins the lesson. They are assigned their first reading assignment as well as a smaller writing assignment.
"Do you want to go grab lunch or do you have another class to get to?" Wei WuXian asks Meng Yao as he shifts his backpack onto his shoulders. "Oh and what major are you? I'm an English major."
"Marketing," he replies. "I have a class for it right after this, so I'll walk with you until we get near my building."
"Great!"
They walk until they reach Berkley Hall then go their separate ways. Wei Wuxian heads to the dining hall, had his lunch, then attended his next class which was life science. After that class, he takes out his books from his bag in the dorm and heads towards the Emperor's Smile for his first day of work. The manager walks him through how to use the equipment and the recipes to make each coffee. Being a fast learner and having practiced himself at home, he easily memorized each of the recipes. Being a Monday afternoon, business was fairly slow, giving him plenty of time to adjust to his work environment. On his third work day, he sees Lan Wangji again.
"A grande cappuccino with three creams and two sugars please," The man says as he steps up to the counter.
"That'll be $4.75," Wei Wuxian tells him. Lan Wangji hands him a five dollar bill.
"Keep the change," He says before turning to sit at one of the tables.
"It'll be ready in a few," Wei Wuxian says, flashing him a smile. While making the coffee, he could have sworn someone was looking at him, but when he turns around, he can see that Lan Wangji is looking down at his phone. When Wei Wuxian walks around the counter to bring the hot drink over, he can't help but stare at this man. Being distracted, he accidentally bumps into a chair, spilling coffee on Lan Wangj's table, some of it dripping onto his pants. He quickly stands up to prevent more hot liquid from spilling onto them.
"Shit!" Wei Wuxian swears loudly as he takes out the towel hanging at his waist. "Sorry!"
He hurriedly cleans the mess up just as another employee came out to see what the noise was.
