"Maria come on darlin' we gotta go"
"Daddy where are we going?"
"We have to leave for a while with uncle Merle"
Maria grabbed her boots and cloths before running out to the car where Merle stood. I made sure we had everything we needed and ran out the door to the truck. When we saw the news this morning both Merle and I knew we couldn't stay here. It wasn't safe
"Daddy can we go get grandma?"
"I'm sorry sweetie but we can't, grandma lives too far away. We would have to go back the other way and we would loose time."
"Oh.....can we go get Danny?"
"Who's Danny?"
"He's my friend from school"
I sighed and looked over at Merle, he looked back at Maria and smiled sadly.
"Sure honey, where does he live?"
Maria pointed right down the road to a two story blue house. We pulled up to the house and while Merle went to look around the outside of the house, I turned to Maria and told her to stay in the truck while we went to find Danny. Merle and I went inside starting with the main floor and moving our way down. We called out and no one answered, I hoped they got out. I turned to a closed door, and opened it to see stairs leading to what looks like the basement. I slowly went down with my bow raised, Merle not too far behind me. Once we reached the basement floor we saw two adults and a kid laying face down on the floor. They didn't look like they turned but they did have gunshots to the head. I grabbed a blanket from the corner and covered them. Merle grabbed some of the ammo he found and we left. When we got back to the truck, My heart stopped.
Maria was gone.
Her clothes were still there but the window was broken from the outside and the driver side door was wide open.
"MARIA!!!!!"
