"God, of course it was the rookie... Okay, Okay, um call her father."
"On it."
Lucy rolled over and faced the window. The shades were drawn almost all the way but a sliver of the navy sky was visible. She sighed as she realized that she wasn't going to be able to fall back asleep. Quietly and quickly, she maneuvered her way out of Spencer's arms. She did, however, make sure that the blankets were covering him completely before she moved on.
Lucy tore off Spencer's shirt and threw it onto the ground, landing it in a pile of their clothes from the night before. She smiled as she remembered.
Lucy checked the clock, 4:27 am, and decided it was a good time for a run. She didn't have to report for duty until 7:00, giving her enough time to work out and shower all before she actually had to be back at the station. She dug through one of her bags until she found a pair of leggings and a sports bra. The rain stopped and now it was just humid out so she decided to pass on the sweatshirt.
"Hey," Spencer mumbled. His voice was deep and raspy.
"Your morning voice is cute," Lucy laughed as she tugged on her last sneaker and tied it tight. Spencer blushed and laughed as well.
"Where are you going," He asked as he sat up. The covers fell into his lap, revealing his chest. He rubbed the sleep from his hair and messed with his hair a little.
"For a run. You should go back to sleep."
The room was too dark for Lucy to see much and the air conditioning was too loud for her to hear much, but she could tell that Spencer didn't like the idea of her leaving.
"You should stay." The sentence came out flat and in one breath, as if he was scared to even think such a thing. "I can get more room service," he suggested. Anything to keep her there with him.
She sighed and stood up from the uncomfortable chair Spencer had sat in the night beforehand. Lucy made her way over to him and sat on the bed. He smiled as their faces moved closer together. She could practically smell his breath. Pineapple? She leaned over and kissed him; a quick one, as if she was used to kissing him. As if it was a habit.
"I will be back in thirty minutes, if I'm not back call the team and add me to the list."
"Not funny," he stated flatly as he laid back down his side, pulling the sheets up to his ears as he did so.
"Statistically speaking, I'm funnier. And so was that joke."
"Bye, Lucy."
Lucy pulled the hotel room door shut behind her and sighed. She was astonished at how fast she had found... a boyfriend? A one-night stand? A fuckbuddy? It didn't matter. She was astonished at how much she liked Spencer.
"Hey!"
Lucy turned around.
"Going for a run too?"
"Oh my gosh, JJ. Hi! Yeah, I'm going down right now. You?"
"Yeah, me too. Want to go together? Derek's gonna meet up with me and you shouldn't run alone."
Lucy smiled at the gesture but she didn't feel like being with anybody else at the moment. She admittedly hadn't gotten much sleep the night before and needed to clear her head. She wouldn't be able to do that with another person tagging along. She decided it would be best to politely decline.
"I would love to, but I actually have to do something uptown first." Lucy smiled as JJ nodded.
"Tomorrow, then?"
"Yes, definitely."
"It's a date!" And with that, JJ was off. Lucy watched as she skipped down the stairs. She felt bad about saying no, but at least JJ didn't seem to mind. They already had a raincheck, anyway. No harm, no foul. She gave it an extra minute to make sure that JJ was out of the building before she began to make her way outside as well.
Scrolling through her playlist, Lucy made her way down the same flight of stairs that she had walked up the previous night. She said good morning to the same lobby monitor that she had said goodnight to. She thanked the same doorman she had yesterday. And she set foot into the same city that she had always had for nineteen years.
The cool air seemed to slap her in the face, but as soon as she started to pick up the pace, Lucy actually began to wish that it was cooler out. Her body adjusted to the temperature a little bit too fast and she was already sweating. At least she decided to ditch the sweatshirt after all. And the tee-shirt. She cringed at the thought of sweat stains.
Lucy's earbuds swayed back and forth across her body with each step. She wondered where JJ was. What did she even mean by you shouldn't run alone? Maybe because they're in the city? But they weren't even in a bad part. Plus, she used to go for so many runs alone when she was in the city. Even when she was younger.
God, she missed being younger. Without all the responsibilities and worrying. Well, with the worrying, but a different type of worrying. The worrying Lucy was doing now was over whether or not her co-workers liked her. That seems pretty juvenile to me. But at the same time, if she still was younger, she wouldn't have Spencer. Things had moved fast between them, and Lucy felt like maybe she herself moved a little too fast, but what the heck, right? You only live once. And they were so alike. They deserved each other. They were good for each other.
Lucy rounded a corner and noticed her left shoe was untied. The one she had tied before Spencer woke up. She missed him already. She wondered how they'd be able to work together normally today without being flirty. Hotch certainly wouldn't enjoy that. Or condone it. Lucy sighed at the realization that she wouldn't be able to flirt with Spencer openly for a while.
"Ouch!" She exclaimed.
Lucy lunged forward, landing on her palms and knees. The concert seemed to be stabbing her. Suddenly, she missed Spencer even more than she had before.
Lucy rolled over onto her back and grabbed at the back of her head. She felt the warmth in her hand. Acid rose in the back of her throat. Everything was going numb. She leaned forward and threw up all over her sneakers. This was not good.
"Lucy," someone in front of her began. The voice seemed so familiar, but she looked up and couldn't make anything out. Her vision was fuzzy and blurry and wrong. She felt herself go lightheaded and inexplicably dizzy. The world shifted beneath her. "I know you remember me. You didn't think I would let you get off that easy, did you?" The voice crept closer. Lucy squeezed her eyes shut. Despite the fact that it was still dark out, everything was suddenly too bright for her.
Lucy held the back of her head with one hand and her legs to her chest with the other. The man in front of her squatted down to be at eye level with her. Lucy felt as he placed two fingers underneath her vomit-induced chin. She felt it as the man took her in. Every bit of her. A bloody disgusting mess. She wanted to throw up even move now.
"Lucy!" A voice called from down the street. She could hear powerful footsteps grow closer. But then suddenly her world went dark.
