I shrieked as I was suddenly lifted off the ground. “Gajeel?!” I gasped, meeting a pair of crimson eyes as I looked up.
“How bad are you hurt?” He asked, taking to the sky.
My answer was lost as I stared at the large white wings behind him, carrying us through the air. Each one was probably the length of my entire body, and they were pure white. I had seen plenty of angels’ wings from afar, but never from up close like this.
“You hit your head or somethin’?” Gajeel frowned.
I shook myself. “No!” I snapped. “I’m fine. My wing got a little damaged, but it’ll heal in a few days.”
He landed on the ground beside his tour bus. The other angels had all gathered here, and so had my demon friends.
“There you are!” Cana exclaimed, practically pulling me out of Gajeel’s arms as she hugged me. “You disappeared after we all flew off, and I couldn’t find you!”
“Sorry,” I chuckled. “My wing was injured and I can’t fly. Gajeel helped me out, though.”
“Speaking of helping,” Laxus said, stepping forward, “why were you demons helping us get the humans out of there?”
“My pranks are meant to frighten humans—not hurt them,” I answered. “Besides, whatever that power was, it can’t be anything good for either of us.”
“Do you know what it was?” The blonde woman asked.
I shook my head. “Something evil.”
“And something a lot more ancient than any of us,” Natsu added.
“We need to find whatever it was,” the blue-haired man with the tattoo on his face murmured.
“Then we should split into groups to search for it,” I nodded.
“I agree,” Laxus said, looking unhappy that he and I had the same opinion on something.
“I’ll go with—”
Laxus cut me off, crossing his arms. “We should pair up one angel with one demon.”
“Why?” Cana frowned.
“Because we’re harder to kill than you demons,” he answered, mirroring her frown. “And whatever produced that magic could easily kill any of you. Hell, it might even be able to kill us. So it’s in both of our best interests to work together on finding and killing it.”
“I’ll work with the Geist,” Gajeel said, meeting my eyes briefly before looking back to Laxus.
He nodded. “Fine.”
Cana sauntered over to Lucy, that coy smirk back on her face. “I’ll go with blondie.”
“You’re going with me,” Laxus fumed. “I don’t trust you with anyone else.”
Cana burst into laughter, patting Laxus on the cheek. “You just can’t get enough of me, can you?”
Ignoring her, he broke everyone else into groups. Laxus, Cana, and the tattooed man—Jellal—would form one team. Natsu, Juvia, the other blue-haired man—Gray—and the blonde woman—Lucy—would form another group. Gajeel and I were instructed to stay around the concert hall and look, since I was injured and he insisted on staying with me.
“I’ll be fine on my own,” I sighed as he followed me back towards the concert hall. “You and I both know whatever that power was has left this area. That’s why Laxus told me to stay here.”
