“Well, I can’t say I’m surprised,” Kayla’s mom, Joanne, stared at both of them from across the room.

“Mom…” Kayla tried to start but didn’t know what else to say.

“What? I’m not. To be honest, I knew it was going to happen sooner or later. Really, I had hoped for later, but I guess the time is now. Really, sweet heart, I’m here for you. We just have a lot to do,” Joanne sighed.

“I’ve only been pregnant a week if even, mom. You can clam down for a moment,” Kayla tried to calm her mother.

“Kayla, I’m going to make you a list of things you need to get, okay? And you’re going to do them all, do you understand? I’ve been pregnant before, obviously. I know what you need to do. Surprisingly, there are so many things you need to start doing this early. This isn’t easy Kayla, it never is. Luckily you have Harry, I didn’t have the curtisy of your father helping me out,” Harry had tightened his grip on Kayla’s hand, “It’s incredibly important that you and your baby remain healthy. I wouldn’t be able to handle it if something happened to either of you two. I love you, you know that.”

Kayla and Harry left her mother’s house feeling somewhat better about their situation. At least Kayla’s mom was being supportive; considering it was the parent they were most worried about telling. Harry’s parents had begun travelling more and more, so a phone call was made to inform them of the news. They were disappointed, Kayla & Harry could tell, but they had nothing to say. They’d been especially distant from everyone lately, and only made it known that they wouldn’t be around to help with anything but that they wished them luck.

Instead of going straight home to Harry’s, they stopped by the store first to pick up the prenatal vitamins Kayla’s mom had demanded she begin taking immediately. They walked into the local grocery store hand in hand and went straight to the vitamin aisle  As Kayla was pulling the vitamins off the shelf, she looked around and made eye contact with a group of girls she knew from school. It was Amber, Brittany, and Ashley, to be exact; the biggest gossipers in the school. “Oh no,” she thought to herself, “here we go.”

The girls strutted forward towards her and Harry. “Kayla!” Amber squealed with obvious fake enthusiasm. “Are those what I think they are?” She had a terrible, plotting grin on her face.

“What exactly do you think they are?” Harry spat back at her.

“Calm down, Harry,” she grinned again and stroked down his arm, to which he jerked out of her touch, “I was asking your girlfriend, or should I say your baby mamma.” She turned her cocky glare to Kayla.

“Don’t you have anything better to do with your time?” Harry glared back, pulling her attention from Kayla, who only stood there agape.

“Would you prefer I get pregnant?” She was still grinning and Brittany and Ashley began cackling behind her. Harry held up his fierce glare as he pulled Kayla into his arms. Amber, still grinning, and the other girls walked backwards before spinning around and finally walking away.

“Come on,” Harry basically snarled as he drug Kayla toward the registers. He paid for the vitamins and then speed home with her. He angrily honked and yelled at everyone in his path. Kayla remained quiet in the passenger seat. A silent tear was sliding down her face. Harry looked over to see the tear just before she wiped it away and immediately pulled over and cut the engine.

“Baby,” he whispered and put a hand on her leg, “you know I love you.”

“I know,” Kayla whispered back, choking on tears.

“And you know I’m here for you, we’re staying together, and that this baby is going to be beautiful and loved, right?”

                “Yes.”

“Then please don’t be upset about Amber. She doesn’t know you, she doesn’t know me and most importantly, she doesn’t know us. She’s a bitch. That’s all she’ll ever be,” he looked over at her and she nodded her head.

Harry turned the car back on, and continued the drive home. When they pulled into his drive way, he turned off the car and ran over to Kayla’s side to get the door for her. As she tried to step out he grabbed her and picked her up bridal style.

“What’re you doing!” Kayla exclaimed through small tears.

“Shhhh,” Harry replied. He carried her through the door and up to his bedroom where he laid her on the bed. When he had laid her down, he climbed in with her, spooning her back. It wasn’t long before both fell asleep in each other’s arms.
