Maia fumed as she walked out of the king's throne room. Everyone felt her anger so moved out of her way, trying to get away from the fire that would scorch them if they bothered it. She was his mistress, his concubine. The woman who was meant to fill in the place of a queen in 2 months since he did not have one. But now, she had competition. The fertility goddess herself had her claws in Lucian and Maia had grown even angrier. He moaned the goddesses name while Maia had been servicing him and she knew he had taken a liking to her. She wanted to cry her eyes out until she couldn't breathe but she didn't want to waste her tears.
"Is the room ready yet?!" She asked, annoyed at the younger sister of Lucian.
Claire nodded without a bow. There was no need to. Maia wouldn't be in this place for long, even if she had married the king and became his consort. She would soon be replaced and Claire knew it.
"You dare not bow?" Maia grit out, annoyed with the lack of respect.
"You are no one to bow to." A loud smack was heard and Claire clutched her cheek, shock evident in her eyes.
"The next time I hear you speak out of turn, you will wish you hadn't! Wait until your brothers hears of this disobedience. I will make sure your punishment is thorough!" Claire wanted to roll her eyes, knowing her brothers would never harm her.
Claire spent all evening scrubbing Maia from head to toe, preparing her for yet another ball. She squeezed into a red velvet dress, guessing it was Lucian's favorite color from the gossip of the maids.
The woman was shouting at the servants to add more make up to her face or jewels to her hair. They all knew she was trying too hard for the king's attention but they kept their mouths shut.
"We need to leave before I have the sudden urge to take you again." Markus adjusted himself while placing a kiss on her forehead.
