Jethro Gibbs was sitting at his desk trying to focus on the new case he had in front of him. He started rubbing his eyes and then took a drink of his coffee. He just couldn't get focused. He couldn't get his last case out of his mind. His wife, Jacqueline Sloane died. It was all because of me, he thought.
He stood up from his desk and walked past his team of agents who looked at him with concerned looks. He walked up the stairs and straight into Director Leon Vance's office without knocking; as usual. Vance was at his desk on the phone. "Gibbs, I'm on the phone with-," Vance started and stopped when Jethro sat down in a chair in front of Vance's desk. This he'd never done before. "Sorry. I'm going to have to call you back," Vance said and hung up the phone.
"Is everything okay?," Vance asked Jethro, standing up. "I-I just can't stop working on Jack's case. I have to find the man who killed her," Jethro said, taking a deep breath. "I know how you feel, Gibbs, I really do. But we can't work on that case anymore," Vance said, with a look of sympathy on his face.
Jethro stood up, abruptly. "Her case isn't just ANY case, Leon. It's Jack's. I have to find out who killed her because I-I-I'm the reason she's dead. I left her there. I have to kill the son of a bitches who killed my wife! I just can't stand around-," Jethro said but was cut off by Vance. "Gibbs! You think I don't understand! She was a good friend and a damn good agent. She-she. You just can't, Gibbs. Just accept that she's dead," Vance said.
"You're very funny, Leon. Go to hell. I'm getting justice for my wife. No matter if I have your support or not! You know what? I quit!," Jethro yelled at Vance and stormed out of his office.
Jethro got confused looks from his team when he came to his desk and took his badge out of his desk. He looked around at the wonderful agents he'd worked with some of his time at NCIS. He couldn't bring himself to tell them he was leaving. "Have fun," was all he said. He left his badge on his desk and left NCIS.
