A shiver ran up your spine when you caught the glimpse of people below wrapped in their coats and scarves. Sitting by the window pane of your apartment, you snuggled next to Toka, the black cat purring happily by the window sill, wrapping her tail around her frame.
The morning was a calm one. You enjoyed a warm breakfast, while tending to Toka and was practically a couch potato for the day. Now that nightfall had come, it felt strange to not be doing anything, but it was for the best, at least the Chief of Police thought so.
Two weeks. That was your entitlement to leave for the holiday season. Generous considering your line of work, but you felt dissatisfied, considering you had a few interrogative sessions by order of the Commission regarding a suspect from the Nabu Menace. You rolled your eyes at the thought. The media had a field day about the whole ordeal, learning that a few former classmates were involved. But to call this dragon a menace was a little harsh.
If anything your mind drifted to the suspect apprehended at the scene, a young man who seemed wizened somewhat, older than his years. The way he dressed was a little odd. You wondered if he was a vigilante after finding no record of him in the Commission's registrar. But even so, he didn't feel like a villain after a few sessions with him. The things that you saw in his head, well, made you question...
You shook your head from the thought, waiting by the window in hopes to spot a familiar mop of purple hair waltzed up to the apartment complex. Hitoshi Shinsou unfortunately had to work Christmas Eve and had already left the apartment long before you woke. The irony was the fact that he actually woke up before you did, but Christmas Eve had always been a hotspot for petty crime for the few opening hours business ran on the holiday. Your invitation to Midoriya's Christmas get together was obliterated due to this fact, however, Shinsou promised some alone time with you hopefully would make up for it.
Not long were your thoughts until you did spot that mop of purple hair amongst the frost of the snow, his scarf wrapped around his face to keep him away from the chill. Toka purred beside you while you calmly scratched behind her ears, watching Shinsou disappear into the apartment complex below.
"Come on Toka, time to see daddy," you chimed, earning a playful chirp from her. You jumped onto your feet and headed towards the front door, peeking out through the peephole before you noticed a familiar yet skewed shape through its lens.
"Kitten," called out Shinsou, rapping at the door. You opened the door, swinging it out of the way for him to enter while Toka rubbed cozily against his leg.
"Hey Toka," he greeted, gaining another chirp from her before she trotted off.
"How was work?" You asked.
"Eh, same old, same old," he replied nonchalantly before he placed his bag on the couch. "More paperwork rather than field patrol though."
"Not even one walk around the block?"
"They needed to finish their end-of-year wrap up, because they were falling behind."
You hoped for some excitement, some anecdotes, some news, but for Shinsou to spend his Christmas Eve filling out reports of other events, almost made you feel dismayed.
"I hope they recognized the work you've put in," you pouted while you helped him out of his jacket. "And that you were compensated for it at least."
"It's all right Kitten. I got some extended hours of leave out of today, so it all adds up in the end," he explained while he rubbed his neck from whatever strain still existed. "Besides, now I can focus all of my attention on... what?"
Shinsou turned to spot you flabbergasted, your mouth agape while you still held onto his jacket. You slowly folded his large jacket across your arms before you pointed at his chest, forcing your lips to keep still and not curl into a smile.
