Dinner on their own at the farmhouse that night was nice and felt amazingly normal. At the end of the evening though, the children packed up what they needed for school the next day and they all went to off to Richard’s to sleep.
“You know, we could have slept here Mom,” Zackary commented as they got into the car for the ride through the canyon. “We all have beds now and that way we wouldn’t have to get up so early tomorrow.”
“We could have,” Greg agreed. “However our clothes and other things are still at Richard’s. We’re not quite ready to stay here.”
“But we’re waiting until Friday to move them?” Zackary checked. “Why?”
“Because a lot more things are being delivered on Friday,” Susan said. “We’ll more or less be able to live there by then.”
“What do you mean? We’re already eating there, doing homework there, doing pretty much everything except sleeping,” Zackary pointed out.
“And bathing,” Susan reminded him.
“We have soap. All we need are towels, Mom, and we do have one,” Zackary said. “Can’t we ask Marion if we can borrow some more of those too? Then just move there tomorrow?”
Susan glanced at Greg. “What do you think?”
“I think Richard and Marion are planning a special dinner for us tomorrow evening in honor of it being our last night there,” Greg told them. “I think we should be courteous to our hosts and not disappoint them.”
“Oh that’s right. I forgot Marion said something about that last weekend,” Susan agreed. “And they’ve done so much for us, it would be nice if we plan to spend the entire evening with them.”
“Oh okay,” Zackary said. “Are we coming back here right after school?”
“Probably,” Susan said. “Greg has meetings in the afternoon, but we should be at the farmhouse no later than five. We’ll plan to pick you up then. Okay?”
“Okay,” Zackary agreed as they pulled into the beach house driveway. “I suppose one more night by the beach is okay.”
“I think it’s pretty cool to be honest,” Susan told him.
“Really? You never used to like being at the beach all that much,” Zackary remembered.
“It sort of grows on you when you live on one,” Susan told him. “Come on. Jessie’s falling asleep. Let’s go in, say good night to Richard and Marion and put you two right to bed.”
They all went in through the main house to say ‘hello’, then Susan immediately took the kids down to the guest house to get ready for bed.

“So is tomorrow night really going to be your last night here?” Richard asked when Susan came back to join them on the back deck.
“Yes, that is the plan,” Susan told him. “Thanks to a loan of some linens, we’ll be able to start sleeping at our new house starting Friday night.”
“So you got all your beds delivered?” Marion asked.
“Yes. We’re having another delivered for Matt on Friday, but all three of ours have been delivered to the house, are put together, made up with the linens, ready to sleep in,” Susan said. “We will need to borrow some towels though. Just until Monday.”
“Why don’t you just buy some more?” Richard asked.
“Funny you should ask that,” Greg said with a hint of a grin.
