He is complicated. I could see it from the way he thinks in chess.
While I see the obvious routes he tries to make other ways possible to overthrow me.
Like right now I just killed his queen again. That is the same method I use. I always go for the queen. But right now when I went for his queen, he set his trap and went for my king.
" Checkmate. " He grins showing me his straight teeth. With no fangs or whatsoever.
If it wasn't for his eyes, I would never think he was an all too intimidating council vampire.
" How did you... ? " I trail off still trying to understand how he sneaks past my traps.
He quirks his eyebrow and places his face on his palm.
" You have a habit of taking out the queen. So I let you think you were winning but at that moment you couldn't see anything else except for your victory. It's a simple trick. A mind game. "
I let you think you're winning...
I clear my throat.
" You play well, Sir. " I compliment him because he does play well.
He tilts his head, a frown on his lips.
" Why do you still call me that? "
What am I supposed to say to that?
I open my mouth and then close it again.
" The real reason, please. " He leans forward.
Please?
I look down at the chessboard and my fallen king.
" It's because vampires like to trick others and they kill us for being disrespectful. And tricking me into calling your name is disrespecting and I don't want to die. " I almost mumble the last bit.
"Call me anything but I'm not a killer."
I can't stop the scoff that rolls off.
" You're a vampire! " I grit my teeth.
" I never said I wasn't. I am just not a killer. I wasn't taught to kill. I was always taught to save. " He says with a constant softness to his voice and that agitates me more.
" Who taught you that? Do vampires have some ' save ' the humanity lessons? " My voice comes out sharp.
His jaw clenches. " I'm sorry you forget but I was not always a vampire. "
I feel the pressure rising in my fingers and I realize that I'm holding the table too tightly.
" I had a father and a mother. I had a family. " He speaks trying to guilt-trip me.
If he had a family why did he volunteer to become a vampire?
Vampires have a contest and whoever wins the match they are granted the gift of immortality and the others that lose are killed on spot.
He had to kill people to become what he is.
" So what about the people in the arena? Didn't you kill them to become powerful? "
