Kingdom Valley. A once prosperous city hidden away in the mountains. As the name suggests, the stone houses and sprawling, gothic towers were all tucked between land formations that reached high into the heavens. The natural walls wrapped around all but one edge of Kingdom Valley. The open side led into a large chasm with dark water pooling up at the bottom. Saying that Kingdom Valley wasn't easily accessed was an understatement. If it weren't for one wide, stone bridge that towered over the chasm, a person would have to fly to enter this forgotten place.

Tikal the Witch did just that.

Tikal sat on an old broomstick and floated over black water that had absorbed the darkness of the night. Her pale orange quills were shoulder length with some groups of strands wrapped with bandages. She wore a black hooded cloak that was tight fitting and without sleeves, revealing black symbols on her arms. Bandages were wrapped around her bare feet that hung off the edge of the broom. She began ascending much higher.

The witch looked down at the withering kingdom with disappointment. Long ago, it had been the holy city for a budding religion. It all began with a young witch who dreamt of consuming the world in a holy inferno to begin anew. A captivating vision that drew in all kinds of unsavory characters. The blooming evil gave the city great strength until the reapers of the Robotnik family wiped them out. The young witch died unceremoniously and her followers went with her. It was almost like they'd never existed.

"I used to love coming here back when it was much more lively. Back when there were still humans around. Real humans, that is. Kingdom Valley is a shadow of its former self now,"

Tikal smiled a cruel, menacing smile.

"It's the perfect place for my weapon to feed,"

"Man, what a view!"

Sonic yelled out from the back of Shadow's motorcycle. The two zipped along a bridge that stood high over a water-filled chasm. Once they finished crossing, Shadow parked his motorcycle and the two hopped off.

"You don't think it's too gloomy?" Shadow looked up at the desaturated, cloudy sky. They were deep enough into the mountains that direct light was scarce. Colors from the buildings and trees were darkened as a result.

"It's got its own charm that way. I mean, check out those cool towers!" Sonic pointed at one of the many gothic spires that they'd passed on their way in. He stopped to admire the ruins that were sinking into the water below.

"No more sightseeing. Let's focus on our mission,"

Sonic did as his weapon asked and followed him into town.

"Starline said this place used to be full of witches before their weird cult was wiped out,"

Shadow nodded. "Things have been quiet until recently. We need to look for information on any potential witch activity,"

Sonic and Shadow walked through the quiet city. They entered any stores or other locations that dealt with a wide range of people. Sonic talked to different employees and owners to learn about what had been going on in the town lately. Aside from a few missing person cases and stories of the town's uncanny night-time atmosphere, they didn't have anything concrete.

"I was hoping we'd have more to go on by now," Sonic sighed.

"Yeah. We don't have much time left before nightfall,"

"That looks like the town hall. Let's check it out,"

The town hall had a group of men lingering outside the stairs in front of the entrance. They moved in front of the doors once Sonic and Shadow approached.
