It began with everyone gathered outside.

"So what's the plan?" Sonic asked.

"I have some kind of link with Eclipse," Shadow explained. "I was able to connect to his mind when we were both prisoners. That link should help us find him,"

"That's right, I'd almost forgotten," Blaze said. "The weapons created by Black Doom functioned as a kind of hive mind. He held complete influence over them, and each weapon could communicate with him or each other from within their own minds. I learned more about it recently; finding any information on the topic has been challenging,"

"I haven't sensed him since I escaped Death City. Hopefully resonating will make him easier to find,"

The air between Sonic and Shadow brightened while moving freely. Shadow could feel a wide portion of the entire planet; it was like it had its own wavelength. He searched diligently, but still couldn't distinguish his connection with Eclipse. He pushed his resonance farther, and a vigorous gust of wind kicked up. The wavelength density made the others flinch.

"This resonance is..." Blaze murmured.

"It's intense!" Silver concluded.

Things died down quickly. Shadow wore a thoughtful expression.

"That can't be right,"

"What is it?" Tails asked.

"It feels like Eclipse is in Death City,"

Blaze was visibly concerned. "Take us there,"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A scythe blade stabbed into Eggman's chest. He was in the death room that stood within the main tower of the DWMA. It was incredibly spacious, and thoroughly destroyed. The outdoors were exposed now that the top of the tower had been ripped off entirely. Murky clouds obscured the sky above for many miles; they held an unnatural tinge of maroon. Rumbling thunder was commonplace alongside indigo lightning.

The kishin was gripping the handle of the scythe. He appeared especially pleased.

"That wasn't much of a fight," He laughed.

"Go to hell," Eggman spat.

"I think you're headed there before me," The kishin pressed his scythe harder.

Eggman coughed, and tried pushing back against the weapon, unsuccessfully. Thick blood poured from his mouth.

"Ivo..." Vanilla groaned.

She was bound by magical tendrils, and stuck lying on the ground. Tikal sat on the death scythe's back, looking carefree. Starline and Eclipse stood nearby; their expressions were vacant. Tikal put her hand on Vanilla's head and pushed her face onto the ground.

"Quiet you," She laughed. "Weapons shouldn't speak freely,"

A bright emerald light came into the exposed death room. Sonic, Shadow, Blaze, Silver, Tails and Knuckles appeared. They weren't prepared to stumble upon this particular scene, and their expressions reflected that fact.

When the kishin saw them, he stepped back. His scythe went with him, and the blade broke from Eggman's chest. The Grim Reaper fell.

"Looks like we have company,"

The kishin wound up his weapon. Parts of it looked like they were carved from ivory, while the rest was black as pitch. Equally dark energy swirled around once the resonance began. Sonic quickly resonated with Shadow in response. Both weapons gained an incredible amount of power, then transformed. Both scythe-meisters ran forward.

"Genie Hunter!"

"Genie Hunter!"

The enhanced blades collided. Power from both transformations bubbled up into the air. It started as a small orb of energy over the weapons. More and more static tore into the air while the orb grew. It continually expanded until it passed the kishin and Sonic. Then, it erupted into an explosion.

First, a vigorous burst of air was generated. Then, a twister began forming as a result of the complex wavelengths wrapping around one another. Each of the other people in the room were swept up by the wind and sent flying from the tower.

Sonic found himself on the floor of the freshly destroyed death room. Shadow's scythe form skidded on the ground nearby. He went back to normal so he could stand.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah," Sonic hopped up.

The kishin dusted himself off. "I wasn't expecting someone who could manage a genie hunter,"

His scythe had been launched straight up into the air. By the time it landed, it had changed. The weapon's other form resembled a hedgehog that had been carved from ceramic. The edges of his limbs, and what resembled his hair, were crystallized. There was a strange familiarity to his appearance. Blue streaks ran across parts of his body. Eerie green irises stood out against his red eyes. He had no mouth, but he did speak.

"Hello, Shadow," Mephiles said.
