Robert has been acting really strange lately. I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I arrive home early from work. I go upstairs to change my clothes.
Today is Nathan's football game. I have to show school spirit. Red and gold. I walk downstairs with my purse in hand.
Robert is over by the computer typing away. I saunter over to him smiling. I wrap my arms around him. Placing on his cheek.
He tenses up a little. I found that to be extremely weird. I just sit there holding him and kissing his cheek. Playing with locks of his hair.
"Babe, I'm trying to work." said Robert.
"Finish your work when we get back." I replied.
"Fine."
I glare at him from the attitude he had behind it. He puts his jacket on walking out the door. I follow behind getting into the passenger side.
"What is your problem?" I ask him.
"I don't have a problem." he replied.
"Is something bothering you?"
"I'm fine, honey. Just having some problems but, it's no big deal."
"What kind of problems?"
"Lori, could you stop with the twenty questions? It okay."
I roll my eyes at him shaking my head. Robert interlaced his fingers with mine. He smiled over at me. I did the same.
Robert and I sit on the bleachers cheering the team on. I tossed a piece of popcorn in my mouth. I see Jennifer talking with Mr. Ruffalo.
They seemed pretty cozy. I see him brush her bangs to the side. I don't get it! Jennifer is hiding something.
I will find out. I turned my attention to Nathan. He is over by the bench. About to pour himself a cup of Gatorade.
Vanna holds up a cup to him. He smiles chugging it down. I wish I could hear what they are saying. The body language is dropping hints.
She had her hand place on her hip. She leaned over whispering something in his ear. Vanna walks away seductively.
My son is just staring her down. What is this woman doing to my son? She sits down on the bleachers cheering.
"Honey, I'll be right back." I said to Robert.
"Okay." he replied.
I walk down the steps going over to where Vanna is. I sit down next to her. She turned to see me. A smile grew on her lips.
"Hi! Mrs. Downey right?" she greeted.
"You can call me Lori." I answered.
"Oh. The game is getting pretty intense."
"Yeah, but Nathan's team is going to win."
"You're son is talented. Must be proud."
"I am. What about you? Any kids?"
"Oh, no. Haven't had time. Can't have kids without a husband."
I look over at to see Nathan make the winning touchdown. Everyone stood up cheering. That's my boy! Vanna picks up her purse moving past me.
"I have to go. It was nice talking with you." she said waving good bye.
I waved back. Something about that woman gives me the chills. I don't trust her. Nor do I trust Mr. Ruffalo. I feel lost in all this.
