~Robert~

I pull up into my parking spot at North Ridge. I would've worked at my kids school. Only they didn't need anyone. So, now I have to drive 30 miles out of town. Life is great!

I'm walking through the court yard. My students greeting me as I went. They are good kids. I have a few bad apples. I haven't come across one I would have to expell.

I step into my office. I took care of some early paper work before heading to my classroom. 1st, 4th, and 6th period I teach English.

My students walk in taking a seat in their desks. Chatting among themselves. I was over by the black board writing down today's lesson.

"Okay, everyone settle down. Good morning." I announced. They all grew quiet opening their notebook in order to take notes. "Everyone turn to page 215 in your book." I watch them do so as I ready myself to read the first paragraph.

"Come, you spirits That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full. Of direst cruelty. What did Lady Macbeth mean by this?"

The room remained silent as I waited for a response.

"Please tell me you've read Act 1 scene 5-7. I assigned it for homework." I continued.

The entire class stayed silent. I let out a sigh rubbing my eyes.

"I need you all to write this down in your notebooks." They ready their pens.

"I need you to read Act 1 scene 5-7. Characterize the relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. If the main theme of Macbeth is ambition, whose ambition is the driving force of the play—Macbeth’s, Lady Macbeth’s, or both? Essay is due Friday."

They immediately groaned and complained at me. I just shrug my shoulders and took a seat at my desk.

"Should've done your homework." I mentioned.

Jennifer enters her favorite class of the day. Mostly all her class are her favorite. Yet, science made her happier.

Mrs. Hunt walked up to her smiling.

"Morning. Jennifer." she greets.

"Morning. By the way, I have all the preparations for this years tournament. If you could look over them for me." said Jennifer giving her the manila folder.

"Oh, honey. I'm afraid you're gonna have to give that to someone else."

"What do you mean?"

"Today is my last day of teaching."

Jennifer stares at her in shock. One of her most favorite teachers is leaving.

"Where are you going to teach?" asked Jennifer.

"New York. I'd hate to disappoint you over this." answered Mrs. Hunt.

"Oh, no! I'm just really going to miss you."

Mrs. Hunt gives her a big hug. Science will never be the same. Class proceeded as usual. Once it was over Jennifer headed off to cheer-leading practice.

Nathan is practicing for tonight's game. He sees his sister on the other side of the field. She waved at him with pom pom's in hand. He waved back heading toward the showers.

~Lori~

Damn! I'm almost late for the game. I park the car and get out. I searched the bleacher for Robert. I found him eating a hot dog.

I smiled to myself taking a seat next to him. He turned to look at me giving me a weak smile.

"You're late." he mentions with a mouthful.

"I'm sorry. I got caught up at work." I replied.

"Don't apologize to me. Do that to the kids."

"What did I miss?"

"Third quarter."

"I missed the half time show! Oh my God."

Jennifer and Nathan are going to be so mad at me. John Adams' won the game. Robert and I waited for the kids.

I went to give Jennifer a hug but, she walks past me. She gives Robert a hug instead. Nathan comes up to us smiling.

"Hi, mom. Dad. My buddy Anthony is throwing a party at his place. Mind if I go?" asked Nathan.

"Sure, just be home by midnight okay." replied Robert. He gives us both a hug and takes off running toward his friends.

Jennifer places her gym bag into the back seat of Robert's car. I watched her get the passenger side slamming the door shut. I feel so bad about this.

We arrive home and I really needed to talk with Jennifer. I stopped her before she could make it upstairs.

"Jen, sweetie can we talk?" I pleaded softly to her.

"There is nothing to talk about mom." sighed Jennifer frustrated.

"I'm sorry if I didn't make it on time to see your half time performance. I promise to..."

"Stop making promises! You've made countless of those and none of them were ever kept!"

"Jennifer, I..."

"Just drop it okay! After today, I could care less if you ever show up to anything I do! I'm sick of hoping."

She stomped up the stairs slamming her bedroom door. I turn to see Robert upset. I fold my arms in front of me trying to fight the tears.

"I know you have something to say. Go ahead and spit it out!" I snapped in anger.

Robert shakes his head in disappointment walking past me. I then see him stand in front of me. His filled with hurt as they stare into mine.

"I wish you could be there more for our kids. You're job is not that fucking important! It pains me to see my own daughter searching for her mother at the games. Or any other place!" he spat.

"You think I don't want to be there. I have tried my hardest!"

"No you haven't Lori! It's like you don't exist in this family. Always working or in your study!"

I wipe the tear from my eye as I avoided his questions.

"When was the last time we had ourselves a date night? Or made love to each other? It's been so long I damn near forgot!" he continued.

"I'm sorry okay! I just wish you could understand me." I exclaimed.

"You know what, Lori? I can't do this with you anymore. From now on do whatever the fuck you want okay! I'm going to go clean out the guest bedroom. Good night."

"Robert?!" I watch him shove past me and down the hall. I drag myself upstairs in tears. I don't know what to do anymore. I feel like I'm losing my family.
