Everyone stands over the metal grate, waiting in anticipation for the new Greenie to arrive. The silence is almost unsettling, so foreign compared to the noise that usually fills the Glade.
Suddenly there's the grinding noise of metal-on-metal, starting very distant, but growing steadily louder. Then you hear someone shouting from the depths of the shaft."Hello? Help me! Somebody help!", the voice shouts.
The sound of the shouting grows louder until the Box crashes to a halt.
Gally lifts up the grate to reveal the Greenie, who stares up at everyone—sweat dripping down his face— with a mingled look of horror and confusion; the look you recognize from so many others who had come up in the Crate in the Springs.
You study the boys features and slowly put the pieces together. The boy has dark brown hair and hazel eyes. He looks very familiar.
Your eyes widen.
It's the boy from your memory; he's slightly different, more matured, but it's definitely him.
Thomas.Gally and Newt help Thomas out of the Box before sharing a deadly glare and parting ways.
Thomas looks around, and immediately after he sees the giant walls and dilapidated buildings, he sprints towards the doors leading into the Maze.
"We've got a Runner!", Zart shouts with a chuckle.
Minho chases after Thomas, but the boys pretty fast. You thought he might make it into the Maze, but he face-planted in the dirt before he could get to the doors.
There's a simultaneous 'ooooooh' from the Gladers as everyone laughs at the boy.Alby walks over and helps him up as he brushes off his knees.
They exchange a few words and Newt brushes last you, his hand barley touching yours, as he goes to see the Greenie. The crowd starts to disperse now that the show is over, and you join then, slouching off back to the Medjacks.

Newt returns after he and Alby gave Thomas the tour, smiling skeptically at you as he steps through the door.
"Hello Love", he chimes, and you turn away, busting yourself with organizing the medicine cabinet.
He sighs, "can we talk?"
You turn to face him and he pats the bed beside him, suggesting you sit.
You comply, still not speaking."Y/N, you've been avoiding me all day. Is something wrong?", Newt asks, concern weaving his expression.
You feel yourself growing slightly angry at him. How could he say all those cruel things to you and pretend like it didn't happen?
It did happen, right?"Love?"
Your anger boils over at his false empathy and you turn to him in exasperation.
"How do you have the nerve to tell me you hate me, and that I'm worthless, then just go back to being sweet and innocent?".Newt looks genuinely confused, which pisses you off even more.
"What're you talking about Y/N?".
"Last night. You told me that you really hated me and that it was all a sick act".
"I never said any of that" he says, attempting to pull you closer to him only for you to squirm away.
"Yes you did. In my head", you realize how crazy it sounded.
"In your dream? I can't control what happened in your dreams Love—,"
"No. It wasn't a dream. It was like you were speaking to me in my head".
Newt looks concerned for your mental stability. You wanted to shout at him "I'm not crazy!", but you weren't quite sure about it yourself.
Am I crazy?
Newt hugs you close to his chest, and this time you don't struggle.
"I would never say that, okay? I love you
Y/N" he soothes. You realize that this is the first time he's said 'I love you'. He said it so effortlessly, you felt he was honest."I-I love you too", you stuffed, closing your eyes and nestling closer to Newt.
For now, you were at peace, ignoring the itching thought at the back of your mind that you were in fact going crazy. Voices in your head was usually a sign of that.
But that temporary moment of peace you felt, curled up in Newts arms, didn't last long.
A/N— this chapter was very short and terrible, sorry. My mother took my phone and laptop last night (and my book. What a monster) so I had to go old-fashioned and write in a notebook.
Hope you have a good day/night, thank you for reading!
