Chapter 9.

i rejoined Gaara and the others outside the exam room, Temari and Kankuro are laughing at something. Gaara is just looking at me patiently, I walk up to them whilst fiddling subconsciously with my locket, we all followed the other students to the second exam area, apparently called the Forest of Death, which I thought was a bit eccentric but anyway...

as our second Proctor was explaining the exam, my blonde brother made some sort of comment and a kunai went flying to his face. without even thinking, I grabbed it. I just appeared in front of him and grabbed it. before I could even register what had happened, I was in front of the blonde idiot, holding the kunai meant for him. I stared at my own hand in shock before dropping it and quickly walking back to Gaara, who looked at me with worry.

"Re, are you okay? what was that?" he whispered in my ear as I tried to avoid all the gazes aimed at me. "i-im not sure, i-it wasn't intentional. I won't do it a-again I s-swear" I stutter out, why did I do that? that was so fast and unexpected. "Kurama was that you?" I inwardly question, "kit that was all you." he replies with a chuckle. "but why would I help a konaha nin?" I ask him. "because he's your brother, or have you already forgotten?", I growl at the fox before returning to reality, all eyes have now returned to the proctor, who has shaken off her shock and collected her kunai from the floor.

She explains the second exam to us, before coming to us and asking how our group will be separated. I step forward quickly and shout, "I'll be alone!" I collect a scroll from the booth and walk to a gate, ignoring the objections yelled from my siblings.

my siblings eventually grab their own scroll and choose the gate next to mine, I decide to try to get their scroll first, Gaara won't have trouble getting more. it's just easiest, that way I can sleep and train with Kurama at the tower for 4 days. yes I'll do that.

the gate opens and I immediately run to my siblings. "what's your scroll?" I ask quickly. "heaven, if yours is too then I'll get you an earth first" Gaara explains quickly. "no, I have an earth, give me your scroll", I hold my hand out as I prepare to leave, Temari hands me her heaven scroll reluctantly and I put it in my bag with  my other heaven scroll. I turn and run into the forest. "kit, you got a heaven scroll didn't you? why'd you take theirs?", "Kurama, if I told Gaara I had a heaven scroll, he would've gotten me an earth one himself, I don't want him to coddle me anymore, especially if I'm not his sister.". "that's very cold of you kit".

as I run through the forest I'm running towards the tower, others will be trying to ambush those who have two scrolls and are going to the tower. "OI, GIVE ME YOUR HEAVEN SCROLL", I hear someone shout from behind me. "sure, but only if you give me your earth scroll. let's trade little boy", I shoot back immediately, the boy is alone, standing on a distant branch, he looks around, most likely to see if I'm alone. "here", I say, pulling out a heaven scroll," it's not a trap, I just want an earth scroll.". "but then we'll still only have one" he says slowly.  'well I mean it's up to you, either give me your scroll and die, or trade and survive" I whisper coldly, I can see him shiver from down here. he ponders for a few minutes and jumps down from the branch, "I don't think you could kill me but sure, let's swap, I saw some with an earth scroll not too long ago" he approaches me, holding his earth scroll out. in the blink of an eye, I throw my kunai, it slices his throat, he looks at me in shock as he clutched his bleeding throat, the scarlet liquid dripping through his fingers as he stumbles back, "shhhh it's okay, just let go of your scroll, that's all I want, the scroll. it was unlucky that you came across me, thank you for your sacrifice. you were very brave. you doubted my ability. I only wanted to prove myself." I smile at him pschycotically, "see, I could kill you" I coo.

I slowly approach the boy now lying against a tree, silent tears streaming down his face. "go forth and fly" I whisper in his ear as I take his scroll. I turn to leave as I place the scroll in my bag, "k-kit that was unnecessary", kurama's voice echoes through my mind. "I'm sorry you had to see that Rama." is all I say as I walk towards the tower.

the boy had bled onto the earth scroll "tch, what a bother, I'll get a new, clean one" I say as I wipe the scroll and see the red smear, staining the parchment, it will only take a few minutes out of my journey, and I'm almost to the tower, I can sleep once I arrive. it had gotten dark during my collection of the earth scroll. others will be setting up camp soon. I climb up a tall tree and look for signs of campfires. there is one to my left, not too far away, I'll go there first.

I jump through the trees quickly and stop when I hear voices. "so we have both scrolls, we should just move through the night." one of the group said. "or you should give me the earth scroll" I say as I jump down, kunai in my hand, I land behind one of the three and place my kunai on the girls neck, holding her hair to stop her from moving.

"play nice and hand it over, I don't want blood on this scroll too" I slowly press the kunai and draw blood, the girl winces, "do you want me to kill her? give me the goddamn scroll" I shout, the poor girls teammates just stand there, frozen.

I lean down to the girl's ear and whisper slowly, "you poor thing, your teammates are cowards, I'll give you a choice. your life, or theirs. pick who's I take.", I wait for her response. "i-i can't decide that... don't kill any of us, please", she cries softly. "your friends won't give me the scroll. get them to hand it over or die" I whisper. "BOYS GIVE HER THE GODDAMN EARTH SCROLL ARE YOU STUPID" the small girl shrieks, wriggling slightly in my arms. one of the boys seems to snap out of it and reaches into the other boys bag, pulling out an earth scroll and throwing it towards me. I release the girl who scrambles away and to the boys who now hold her tightly silent tears fall down their faces as I pick up the earth scroll.

"thank you", I say as I walk away.
