I had never truly appreciated how the sky was so blue, so crystal blue. Envious of the clouds, watching them drift peacefully, relishing in the peaceful solitude of my morning on god know's what day.
I lost count a long time ago.

She sat on her couch, a beer in one hand, a remote in the other, flicking through the channels uninterestedly.
A knock at the door unswayed her, focus still kept upon the Friends re-run she'd thankfully come by.
"Come in," she said loudly, taking another swig of beer.
"Bonnie, hey," Chuck grinned, gingerly opening the door and closing it behind him, "I have great news!" He was almost whispering it.
"Yeah cool, there's a six pack in the fridge, pop it open and tell me all about it," vision stil fixated on Jennifer Aniston's hair. How did it always look so good, even when she was all wet, Bonnie contemplated.
Chuck was the mailman, a fat almost ginger balding guy in his late thirties, with these big brown innocent eyes. Bonnie still wasn't sure why she was friends with him, probably because she knew he had a crush on her despite his current marriage, and because she didn't have many friends. Also, she felt sorry for him.
"I don't drink," he smiled uneasily.
"Oh, right," Bonnie nodded, "Sorry I forgot."
"Okay, so," Chuck scrambled excitedly in front of the television, completely blocking the screen and forcing Bonnie to look up at him, "Gina...is...pregnant!"
Her eyes widened in surprise. This was unexpected. Gina was so tiny, she didn't think her and Chuck could even have sex without him suffocating her. Her hypothsis was, Gina's larynx would be crushed and she would asphixiate; she stiffled an amused smile thinking about it. She was so terrible sometimes.
"Oh my gosh!" Bonnie yelped, pushing the thoughts away, motioning with her arms and spilling some of her beer, "Congratulations! Chuck I'm so happy for you a-"
The window behind Chuck and the little box TV on the floor broke, smashing and sending the glass flying across the carpet. Bonnie raised her arms above her face in defence. Chuck screamed.
She looked up at Chuck, and was frozen to her seat. A woman had just grabbed him, pulled him backwards knocking the TV sideways and slamming him right into the wall and the window, and bit into his neck. Chuck's scream turned into a gargle as the blood seeped from where she had torn into his neck, running down his throat and dripping all over his shirt. Bonnie could see the common carotid artery that she had ripped in half, still pumping the blood, contracting and releasing...
"Chuck!" she wailed, tears pouring down her face.
Insides churning, she couldn't keep down the vomit that emerged onto her carpet. Whiping her mouth, she sprinted to the door, slamming it open, and dropping her beer.
It seeped into the carpet. That was the last beer she'd have for a long while.

Shuddering at the memory, I opened my eyes. Everytime I closed them, the images of Chuck's death would return. And the other people I lost those first few days.
The approaching footsteps in the grass pulled me from my thoughts and I sat upright turning to face them.
"Hey," Tina said, putting me at ease, "Girl, you might wanna come look at this. Mia's made a lil' discovery."
