KorraIt turned dark and cold faster than I imagined it would. I wrap my dad's coat around me tighter to keep my body heat inside as I hold a branch up high so Asami could step out of the forest. we stayed at Downtown Beach for hours, Asami and I ended up filling a page and a half for the project. 1 place down, 2 to go.
She seemed to enjoy her stay too, she was actually smiling, laughing. At the start I was so close to bailing out, my heart was pumping outside of my chest and my hands were shaking, muffling around in the pockets of my coat. But when I got there, through the forest and she smiled, I relaxed. My shoulders weren't weighed down anymore. I thought she'd hate it, I thought she'd think it was stupid but no, she loved that place.
I skip once so my steps are in sync with Asami's to my right. The air is cold but fresh, the streets lit up by the lampposts and the occasional car drives past. It's peaceful to say the least.
"So, who are you playing against tomorrow?" She asks.A smirk plays on my lips and I raise an eyebrow at her.
"You've been to all of my games, surely you should know who I'm playing."She adverts her eyes away from me.
"I go because of Jinora, not because of you."I chuckle, I knew she'd say something like that.
"Whatever you say. It's nice to know that I have a number 1 fan."She groans in frustration which makes me laugh even more. She soon joined in with my laughter too but only for a moment. From the corner of my eyes I watch Asami wrap her school blazer around herself tighter, hoping to keep the warmth in. Her shoulders shiver and it's clear that she's cold.
Without any hesitation I pull the zip down on my coat and take it off, only so I could wrap it around her shoulders.
"What are you doing?" She asks. Curse my smallness. I had to stand on my tip toes and practically throw the coat around her shoulders but at least she's warm now."I don't want you to freeze." I say, flashing her one of my best smiles however it was a little lop sided since my cheek stung a little.
She clutches the coat tight.
"Thank you." she says through chattering teeth.I laugh.
"No problem." I dig my hands into my trouser pockets to keep them warm. I could do this everyday, walk Asami home. Though, I don't think Asami approves just yet. I think she only spoke to me because she was caught up in the moment, the beach and the trees. All that stuff. If I were to speak to her at school then I think it might be a different story. Only one way to find out I guess. We continue to walk down the street in silence yet, it's a comfortable silence. For me at least, I'm not sure about Asami. I take another glance to my right and find that Asami had the same idea. We lock eyes for a moment before both of us turn away. My heart starts pumping irregularly again, fast and hard through my chest. Not a good time now, please stop.
I gulp and take a deep breath through my nose. Now it's an awkward silence. It stays that way for a few more minutes until I catch something in my gaze. Someone stumbling down the road, almost tripping over their own feet.
"They must've had a rough night or something, they're all over the place." I chuckle in an attempt to break this awkward silence.Asami follows my gaze and shrugs, burying her head deeper into my coat.
"Must have."I chuckle again and continue to watch the stumbling woman, she's mumbling to herself. Taking swigs out of a brown bottle which eventually turn into large gulps. I frown, she's really going at it. Her feet slowly take her into a spot light that was emitted by a lampost. I could see her clearly for a second before she takes a turn down a different street. My stomach drops.
"Asami which way is your house?" I question, glancing to the girl next to me.
