❛the vault.❜

The trio, shrouded in the darkness of the night, stood outside the rundown bank. The brick was coated in a film of dust and tattered flyers clung to the abandoned ground. A chill swirled through the air causing Val's hair to flow in the air in ringlets. Scott's deep brown gaze seeped into the wall and his brows curved up at the front.

Derek spared a glare at the boy. "What?"

"There's just something I can't get out of my head..." he shook his head, gnawing on his lip.

White luminescence like must fluttered around them. The silver disc in the sky inched high every second they waited. "Scott. The moon's rising. We don't have much time," Val warned.

       "Risk and reward."

The alpha crossed his arms. "Which means what?" He rolled his eyes and quipped a brow at Val.

"We're not measuring the risk with enough information. We don't know enough."

"We know time's running out!" Derek shouted, his green eyes clouded with concern.

Scott licked his lips. "Yeah, but think about it– they put the triskele on your door four months ago. What have they been doing all this time? Why wait until now?"

Val started between the two debating whether to jump in. They clearly had a relationship even if every time she saw them together they were always fighting. Scott and Derek were so different yet something tied them together. It was a way they carried themselves. Scott, even though he was so gentle and caring, a light of something stronger flickered within him. Derek on the other hand flaunted his dominance on the regular like a wall around himself.

Derek brought his index finger and thumb to his eyes. "We don't have time to figure out every little detail—" he sighed.

Scott's words started to blend together. "Okay, but what if this detail– the reason why they waited– is the most important one?"
