Luffy's mind failed to comprehend what he was being told. Having just arrived back from one of his grandfather's training escapades, the smile that was seemingly etched permanently onto his face fell. The jubilant aura that always surrounded him became one of shock and hurt as Makino-San relayed the news to him.
[name] had gone missing.
The young girl who had been loved by everyone, had vanished the night the village was attacked. Her family home laid in ruins, her parents died trapped under the rubble. The news of this seemed so unfathomable to the young boy, he refused to believe it. He lashed out, his tiny fist slamming themselves against Makino's legs as he begged. Begged for it not to be true,calling her a liar, "You're lying! It's not true!"
Tears clouded his vision, as he weakly fought against the older woman's embrace as she wrapped her arms tightly around his body. Soothing words spilt from her lips as she attempted to calm the boy down. The two sat there on the ground crying into each others arms at the loss of the young girl.

Luffy and [name] laid in a tangled mess on the floor. Tears continuously spilt from the young man's eyes as he laughed joyously. His arms wrapped themselves securely around the girl, almost as if he feared she'd disappear again. [name] smiled softly at his actions, as she watched the boy struggled to put his thoughts to words.
"H-how... I-"
The girl gazed at him sadly, her smile dissipated. "It's a long story..." The boy suddenly sat up, untangling himself from his friend, "What happened?" Rising from her sprawled out position, about to give a response to the boy's inquiry when a voice spoke up. "Uh Luffy how do you know this girl?", the archeologist voiced confusedly at the sight of her captain's actions towards the young woman.
Luffy looked at her confused for a second, as if he expected for his crew to know who [name] was to him already. His head tiled up slightly, a proud smile etched its way across his face,
"Oh [name], she's my best friend!", he said as if it was the most obvious fact.
