"That's it Ryan, I've had enough of your behavior!"
What his dad told him the night before echoed into Ryan's head as he was walking towards the school gym, back crooked and holding his messenger bag to his chest with both of his already sweaty hands. He hated how he started sweating at the smallest sign of stress, even if today it might have been justified. He was, as a matter of fact, going to join the school basketball team. Not that he wanted to of course, god forbid one of Ryan's wishes was running around in an ugly orangy-red uniform while.. dribbling the net and stuff.
His dad had signed him up that morning against his wishes, after a heated fight they had the night before. Just thinking about it made Ryan's lips press against eachother, as he tried not to bite the inside of his cheeks off. Before he had the time to make the choice to do a 180° turn and run away from the situation, he was already facing the open lockeroom. Great.
What Ryan absolutely did not want was to have to change with a bunch of dudebros that just smelled like pure homophobia. And sweat. He sighed upon entering the room, making the fifteen or so pair of eyes of his school mates turn towards him. As rude as that might have seemed, he wasn't offended. It didn't happen every day that a guy wearing a checkered baby blue sweater and a white fedora entered a sports lockeroom.
Troy Bolton, the star kid of the basketball team and of East High in general, gently pushed away his teammates as he came walking forward to the blonde. He reached his right hand forward and gestured at Ryan to shake it.
"Welcome to the team, Wildcat!"
Ryan reluctantly shook the other's hand, knowing how sweaty and uncomfortable his own was.Troy turned around and clapped his hands two times to call the team's attention, which he really didn't need to do since both him and Ryan had already the full attention of everybody in a twelve mile radio.
"So, this is Ryan Evans, although I'm almost sure most of you already know him, and he's gonna be trying out for the team!"A deafening silence dropped in the room, as everyone awkwardly stared at the captain and their new, unusually pale teammate.
Troy, standing beside Ryan with a hand on the other's shoulder, gave everyone a look that said 'be nice to your new buddy or I'm gonna fuck all of you up'
A couple of guys decided to say hi to then go back to changing, as Troy handed Ryan a random uniform that coach Bolton must had found somewhere in the storage room.Ryan shakily grabbed the pair of basketball shorts and jersey and started walking to the emptiest corner of the lockeroom he could find. He hesitantly started taking his clothes off, folding them and setting them aside on a bench. He kept his view low but he could still feel all the eyes on him, while trying his best to hide his soft skin that showed the bones under it slightly.
He finished changing, but remained crouched down with his right hand scratching his left arm, shaking from embarrassment and shame.
He felt a tap on his shoulder. "Hey Evans."
