The morning felt like it was going by so slowly. I tried to focus in my classes but found it very difficult to do so. I need a break. I need to do something that will help me clear my mind, whether it's done by relaxation or having fun. Just something.
The last bell rang and I quickly paced myself out of the school building. I was suddenly stopped by something that quickly caught my eye. Demi was sitting against a tree and she looked like she was crying. I darted my way to her as fast as I could and sat next to her.
"Demi, are you okay, what's wrong?"
She has her hands covering her face and she is sniffling a lot.
"Demi, please answer me. I'm here now. I'm sorry though, I feel that I have been such a shit friend. We haven't really talked in like a day or two, but still, just tell me."
I begged her, my voice quite loud. She finally brings her head up and manages to speak."My father came back last night."
That's good, right?"
"I guess but he is tearing this family." she says, looking down.
"What happened?" I asked, placing my hand in her shoulder, as to indicating that I am listening, and I am here for her.
"He has cancer. Prostate cancer. They say that they found it early and that the treatments may be successful but still, you never know what can happen."
she says, while looking straight ahead at I don't know what."Oh my gosh, that's horrible, but the good thing is that he'll be okay. He will get better."
"I know. I know he will, but, there's more." She says and starts crying again.
"What else happened?"
Demi wipes away the tears, sighs, and begins to speak again. "He cheated on my mom, while he was gone, he would just go out to the bar and meet chicks and well yeah, you can figure out the rest."
"That is completely sick. I'm so sorry Demi. You don't deserve any of this." My eyes start to get watery and I am now crying with her.
We both stand up from the ground and hug each other. We don't say anything else but just hug each other and cry. It hurts seeing my best friend like this and I want to do everything I can now to help her feel better. She was there for me, and I am going to be there for her.
"Come on, I'm taking you to my place." She chokes out an okay and follows me to my car.
I pull my keys out of my purse and unlock the doors to my car to get in, but suddenly I hear my name being shouted out. I turn around to see Zach. He was about to say something until he sees Demi behind me, still crying but is trying hard now to hold back her tears.
"Hey Demi, are you alright?" Zach asks her.
"Yeah, I'm fine, I mean no, but I'll be okay. I promise." She says.
"Alright, well I hope you feel better." He says and Demi says thanks and opens the passenger door to my car and sits herself down.
"I see that this isn't such a good time."
"Yeah, it isn't, can we talk tomorrow?"
He looks kind of sad but agrees. "Yeah, sure, see you tomorrow." He says and walks away, both hands in the pockets of the blue hoodie that he was wearing.
I started the car and we finally made our way to my house. We entered the house to find that nobody was home. It was now 1pm and everyone was out. My little brother was still at school and my mom and dad were at work. My mother gets out of work at 2:30, and picks up my little brother, who gets out at 3. My dad comes home later, at about 5.
