Ok so I gotta level with y'all, I planned for this to be a twenty chapter book, but it's shaping out to be a little longer! I'm lowkey failing two classes, though, so that's my excuse for not updating in a while :°
Talking with the principal was awkward. Well, sitting there doing absolutely nothing while Yamaguchi was being interrogated by the principal was awkward. It was more than just awkward. It was heartbreaking. I just couldnt believe that I let all these little details slip between my fingers. Yamaguchi's reddish eyes after first block every day, his unusual tardiness whenever we met up in the hallway, he was even more aloof than normal somehow. I watched all that happen! I was there! Yamaguchi was supposed to be my best friend, maybe even more than that, and I let him down.
I ended up spacing out during the conversation before the principal snapped me out of it.
"Tsukishima, are you free to walk Yamaguchi to his first class?" He asked me, barely looking up from his computer screen.
"That depends, are Itsuki and Hibiki going to be there?"
"Of course they're not going to be there! I've already sent for them, so they'll be getting here in a few minutes. So, I ask again. Will you take Yamaguchi to his first class or not?" He asked, this time looking me straight in the eyes, obviously not amused by my response.
"Yeah, okay, okay, I got it," I stood up and slung my backpack on to my shoulders, then reached a hand out to Yamaguchi. "You ready?"
"I guess..." there was uncertainty in his voice, as to be expected.
We walked out of the office together, hands still interlocked as if it was just second nature for them to be intertwined. Once we saw a classmate glance to our hands, then to us, then to our hands again, we quickly separated. Immediately, the silence that hung between us became thick and awkward.
"Do you want to take a lap with me before we go to class?" I asked Yamaguchi, trying to ease the tension.
"Uh- yeah, that'd be nice, Tsukki."
After a little bit of walking, I broke our usual silence once again. With my hands still stuffed in my pockets and my eyes glued to the floor, I spoke up for a second time.
"You're so brave, Tadashi. I love that about you. No matter how scared you are of something, you still face it head on," I'd been unintentionally planning this speech since last night. All these things I'd wanted to say for so long, I had to finally say them.
"From now on, I want to face things with you. I never want you to think that your problems are too insignificant for me, okay?" I paused for a second before deciding that sounded way too serious, "I mean- What would I look like if I let my best friend get hurt?"
I took a break from staring at the tile to look over at Yamaguchi, who was looking up at me with teary eyes once again.
"Uh- did I say something wrong? Was that stupid? God, I- Sorr-" I was cut off as Yamaguchi grabbed my hand again.
"No, Tsukki. That was really sweet," he said, a melancholy smile playing on his lips. His thumb was drawing little circles on the back of my hand.
"Okay, if you say so. Please don't start crying again, though, I think I'm missing a test right now, I really can't spend too much more time out here."
Yamaguchi went wide-eyed then started to laugh a bright, sunshiney laugh, "Tsukki! Why didn't you tell me? Now I feel like an asshole!" He bumped into my side with just enough force to catch me off guard, and I fell on my butt, pulling him down with me. Yamaguchi ended up on top of me, his face just inches away from mine. If we had been there long enough, I could have counted every freckle on his face. Unfortunately, he quickly hopped up to his feet and offered me his hand.
"Sorry, Tsukki!" he exclaimed, a deep shade of pink lighting up his face. I hoisted myself up with his help, and we started walking to his classroom.
"It's alright, you're lucky that didn't happen during passing period, though! I would have never fully forgiven you," I laughed. He seemed to be in a better mood, so I figured it was about time to send him on his way.
As I watched Yamaguchi walk into his classroom, I started to process everything that just happened. I didn't make up that blush, did I? Is it possible that he likes me back, or was that just embarrassment?
Alrightyyy there's the chapter. Very cool amiright B')
