She could barely get a word out today, her anxiety was swallowing her whole. She was worried for the Southside students, not everyone was as welcoming as her circle of friends. Reggie was so angry last night about it, he kept yelling and asking her to drive him to Southside to find a Serpent he could give a warning to.
His aggression only made her angry in return, the night had ended up with both exploding.
Asher could hear the crowd in the hall, Veronica made some stupid welcoming table. Asher had hoped it would help, but she didn't have high hopes for it.
She stayed in the lounge the whole time, she couldn't deal with the arguing today. She had her headphones in, watching as students came into the lounge.
At the door though she spotted him for the first time, he walked past the door. Asher knew it was him immediately, the height gave him away.
She didn't realize she was being watched from the hall too, and even inside of the room. Reggie couldn't help but to glare at the tall Serpents back as he saw Asher's face drop at the sight of him.
Jughead on the other hand moved right next to her even pulling out one of her earbuds, "You're the Northsider, aren't you?" She looked at him in pure confusion.
"Swee-" He didn't even finish his name before he leaned back staring at her in disbelief.
"I don't know what or who you're talking about, Jug." She said as strongly as she could, hoping he would drop it.
"Your mouth can lie all you want but your eyes can't. They dilated. I thought we were friends." Asher watched in complete surprise as Jughead charged out of the lounge. Asher blinked in shock before she finally moved.
"Jug!" She yelled trying to find her friend in the crowd. She heard yelling and rushed around the corner but it wasn't who she thought.
Instead it was Sweet Pea, basically throwing Reggie into a locker.
"Sweet Pea! What the hell is going on?" She yelled pushing through the crowd of students just as Toni did on Sweet Peas side. She grabbed his arm and tugged him towards her, she nodded to Reggie.
I did what she suggested and pulled him off the ground, "What is wrong with you? Are you an idiot, he could have killed you!" I scolded as I pulled him out of the crowd, but not before looking back at Sweet Pea.
The eyes glaring back at her weren't the ones she remembered from last week. This strangers eyes blazed with anger, with bloodlust.
By lunch most was normal again. Apparently Reggie had blamed the Serpents for spray painting the school, which they didn't. It got their leather jackets banned.
Asher quickly discovered she had three classes with Sweet Pea, two with Toni and Fangs.
She hadn't spoken to Reggie since she found out about him trying to ruin their chance at a better education yesterday. Today thought he wouldn't leave her alone, he was following her around like a lost puppy. By the end of the day when she reached her car, she was pissed.
"Get off the Stang." Reggie sat on the hood of her car, almost making her have a heart attack at the image of a dent being formed.
"Listen, babe-" Reggie started but was quickly cut off.
"Reggie, don't call me that. Lately you've been a great friend but this whole thing just reminded me of how mean you are. These are kids, like you and me, Reg. They are trying to take advantage of an opportunity we were born with. I'm sure they aren't having much fun either with you and the rest of the Bulldogs waiting for them around every corner." She was pissed, he already knew that.
Reggie couldn't help but feel bad but felt hopeful when she stepped towards him, "Until the Bulldogs leave the Serpents alone you need to leave me alone."
Loud clapping erupted from somewhere besides her car. When she looked over she saw Jughead smiling at her along with the rest of the Serpents, besides one of course. Sweet Pea sat on his bike staring silently at her.
She couldn't help but roll her eyes, she gave Reggie a shove off the car. "Can you at least drive me home, Vi?"
She looked at him with anger, "Don't pull that shit, I'm being serious!"
She slammed her car door shut and didn't wait for him to move before she started reversing.
"Guess you have to be nice to us now, huh?" Jug couldn't help but laugh a little.
"You think some bitch I fuck around with is gonna make me treat you snakes like people? Hell no, you're scum." Sweets was off his bike in moments, staring him down once his steps were stopped by a couple of the Serpents.
"I dare you to call her a bitch again, I dare you." Sweet Pea could feel himself shaking with anger, Reggie was quick to back off.
A part of Sweet Pea longed to be in that passenger seat again. They had talked all night, and once she was asleep he thought about it for a long time. He was staring at her massive ceiling when he realized how much he really didn't belong there, how he shouldn't have his hand rested on her hip. Sweet Pea couldn't help but refer to himself as Southside Scum when he finally told himself he had to leave the grand house.
Asher had whined when he moved her off of him, her hand clutching the fabric of his t shirt. It made him feel incredibly bad about leaving. But he felt as if he had no choice.
He walked all the way back to Southside, feeling almost as if he could cry. Sweet Pea never cried. He also never thought it was possible to connect so much with one person, he knew that first day that they had a connection, begging him to be with her.
Seeing her even speak to Reggie made him angry but her words to him hit deeply. She wasn't like the others.
"Sweet Pea, just go." He looked up to lock eyes with Jughead.
"What are you talking about?" Sweets was always defensive, especially when it came to her.
"You got somewhere to be? You're just staring off. Maybe, someone's house a few blocks away?" Jug couldn't help but smile at the angry giant.
"No." Sweets had almost growled it out. He didn't belong there. He didn't deserve to be in her presence, Jug frowned at his reply.
