Silver's Comeback

Once Tails got on the computer, his first thought was to show his friends the amazing features of the game. It had a lot of adjustments to the setting and the sound effects were super real; they could almost imagine being in that place where it is filled with ongoing adventures and fun.

Tails excitedly clicked the first stage, which displayed the desert world. A row of icons bobbed on a list on the screen. It included every one of the recent Mobius heroes who fought in the battle against Infinite and his illusions. These were the options to select which Sonic character could play in the game.

Tails selected himself and the fox icon popped up on the screen. The orange blob popped open and became exactly like him—or rather a virtual appearance—but digitally in the game system.
"Look—it's me!" Tails pointed enthusiastically where his identical twin appeared inside the computer. The digital fox faced the bigger one, who looked straight through the screen. It jumped up and wave a 'hello' signal. The desert sand blew across the screen and the little fox covered his body to shield himself as part of its scripted body code. "The little me is the illusion created by the ruby, so it doesn't have to look so crusty and misshaped if I have to personally design one myself," Tails chatted.

"Don't go off too far with the game," Knuckles shouted in the corner. He was leaning with his cheek sinking into his palm. His elbow was sitting on top of the chair while holding his face's weight.
"I'm only getting started," Tails responded. "Come over here and have a look! Right now, I'm playing the desert stage."

"Boring," the red echidna said while rocking on his chair back and forth.

"Who would want you to be involved in this?" Vector inputted, facing the red echidna with a snappy expression. "If you're just gonna complain all day, I suggest keeping your thoughts to yourself."

"No offence, but we shouldn't be using that gem to 'play'. There could be all sorts of dangers the gem can do that we wouldn't have discovered before. We can't combine these two just to play your video game—putting it with technology can cause a problem so big that it would be difficult enough for us to handle in the future, and I mean a whole-wide world catastrophe. Have you not considered that?" Knuckles said.

"Ah, being the science-smart guy, I see?" Sonic teased as his head bobbed up from the crowd. "Don't think too much, Knux. It doesn't hurt to have a little bit of fun!"

Right after Sonic looked back at the computer, something tragic happened among the group of friends. The Phantom Ruby flashed and electrical shocks were seen emitting from the metal wire travelling to the computer's base.

"I knew that junky ruby is not okay to use!" Knuckles stood up alarmingly, knocking his chair over. Everyone stood there like complete idiots but they were overwhelmingly shocked by its remarkable occurrence.
The red echidna rushed forward to snatch the gem off of the device before anything could happen. But it was too late, every one of his helpless friends was fading away in a stir of powder-like glitter.
Knuckles left as the only mobian in the room, watched in horror as his friends turned completely invisible. The whole collection of the Sonic characters got sucked into the computer and was gone out of the world.

Knuckles stopped at the desk. He knocked over the chair and pushed the sheets of paper onto the floor; he didn't have the time to sort his mess. The echidna then accidentally bumped the machine which was used to hold the precious ruby. The solid metal box crashed onto the floor and split into halves. He frowned even more. "Oh shoot!" he whispered. How would Tails deal with him when he finds out about the broken machine? Good thing Tails wasn't here to witness what he was doing to his inventions. He continued to further the investigation for the cause of his disappearing friends.

"Oh—no no no no no, this is not good!" Knuckles yelled out frantically. He clamped his giant hands around the flat computer And lifted the whole thing off the desk, shaking it violently. "Hello? Are you guys in there?"
