Ethan, August and Ace all climb into the over sized car - more like a mini van - which now seemed far too big for just the three of them. It was silent as they drove, until as they slowly edged closer. The ride felt fast and each of them had a stream of nervous energy flowing through them. They knew something was about to happen, something about the seemingly random break in didn't seem right. They all knew it.
"Is everyone clear on the plan?" Ethan questioned causing an anger to swell in Ace's chest. Ace was usually in charge and so giving control to someone else, Ethan of all people, was unsettling to him. He didn't like being treated like he was one of the newbies on their first job.
"Yes." Ace reluctantly spoke, the words tasting bitter as Ace forced them out. Ethan held back his smirk, knowing exactly how Ace was feeling but finally giving Ace the anger that Ethan held for Ace every time he was around Lily. Ethan knew Ace wouldn't just fit into her nearly normal life and just as he had to stay away from her, so did Ace.
"Good." Ethan nodded, a smug tone in his voice that Ethan didn't miss. It would be far too hard to miss it. August sat at the back silently, somehow his confidence hadn't faded yet, he thought it was something to do with seeing Lily again. August had been struggling with depression and insomnia which of course nobody noticed since he tended to be the one looking after everyone else. Now that he once again had Lily in his life to help him with his previous job, the girl that noticed, maybe he could finally truly heal.
Once they arrived, a few short minutes later, they climbed out the car silently. There stood at the door was Damion, a serious look on his normal carefree face. Ethan nodded his head and Damion stood silently until August had walked into the broken studio then followed in behind them. Ace and Ethan walked into Lily's office followed by Damion while August started his search.
"Take a seat Mr Waldo." Ethan directed, placing himself in Lily's office chair while Ace stood behind him. Ace's eyes were blank and cold, it would terrify anyone who dared look directly at them. Damion sensed the anger in the room and quickly took a seat on one of the chairs in front of Ethan, feeling uncomfortable under the stares of the two angry men Damion quickly broke the silence.
"You wanted to see me sir?" Damion asks, it's a few painfully long seconds before Ethan responds. It was a strange sensation for Damion, part of him wondered if he would be able to continue his employers plan.
"What did you see tonight?" Ethan questioned, his calculating gaze trained on Damion while he answered. The slight gulp that Damion took before answering didn't miss the eyes of Ethan, the way he fiddled with his fingers slightly before he answered didn't miss Ace. Together they were pure human lie detectors, if they weren't both criminals they would make fantastic detectives.
"As I told Lil..." Damion almost called Lily by her nickname but sensed that would be a bad idea and instead used her normal name which felt strange on his tongue. "Lily. I left my sketch book here, I know she told me she wouldn't be here tonight but it's Lily. Lily always works late and starts early, when she sleeps is beyond me. Anyway, I came back to get my sketch book because I assumed Lily would be here. Instead I saw the door was broken and when I walked there was lots of damage. I called Lily and then you all showed up." Damion rambled. Ethan and Ace shared a look before Ethan once again spoke.
"You are free to go Mr Waldo." Ethan instructed. Damion scurried away and Ethan and Ace listened to his footsteps trail away. "He's hiding something." Ethan stated once he was sure Damion was out of earshot.
"I agree." Ace spoke. "But he's not an immediate threat."
"I agree." Ethan stated then the room fell silent as they walked out the room to find August.
~~~~~~~~~~
"Is it done?" An unknown voice of an unknown person spoke on the other end of the phone.
"It's done." Damion confirmed, feeling far more nervous on the phone to his unknown boss then he ever would under the hard gazes of Ace and Ethan.
"Do they suspect you?" They questioned again.
"No." Damion assured. "I do not pose an immediate threat." Damion spoke, repeating the words of Ace.
"Good." The unknown person smirked and put the phone down. "Soon Lola White will be mine."
~~~~~~~~~~
"August what did you find?" Ace questioned his friend and gang member.
"The door was unlocked before it was broken, the smashing of the door was just for show. Whoever wrote the graffiti was an artist of some sort, however they didn't have experience in graffiti art. Everything smashed in here is cheep and replaceable, Lola said nothing was stolen so this was not some thief. The only thing expensive that was broken was this laptop, which I believe belongs to one of Lola's workers. Lex can upload the hard drive and find out what was on it that could be seen as important." August explained. "Whoever broke in had a reason, they planned this."
"Thank you August. Is there any clues on who the person may be." Ace questioned.
"Not yet, in the light I should be able to calculate things about the person who did this but until then this is as much as I know." August assured, wanting to give the threatening men in front of him as much information as he knew. They were the best ones to help Lily not him, August knew this.
"Lets go." Ethan said, still clearly in thought. So many questions circled his mind but none of them could be answered yet. Damion was clearly hiding something, but what?
