"mama look daddy's here!" kari exclaimed and clapped her hands as she saw quez's car pull up in the driveway.
"go on," i told her and she rushed down the stairs that led up to the porch and ran into his arms.
i walked into the house so i could grab her bag and meet them back outside.
"wassup," he said and i nodded at him courtly.
it had been almost two years since we split and i still couldn't bare to see his face, but i managed for kari's sake.
"make sure ta give her a oatmeal bath tonight and don't forget." i told him.
"her skin actin up again?" he asked.
i nodded, "yeah so make sure she don't touch no more perfumes."
"gotchu, tell mama you'a see ha lata." he said and kari came over to hug my legs.
"see you lata mama!" she said mocking quez.
"see you later baby, i love you." i said and kissed her forehead.
"i love you this much more," she said and stretched her arms out.
"i know that's right, and be good for your daddy and your nana." i said and she nodded.
"i will!" i gave her a hug before walking with quez to put her in the car.
"you straight, right?" he asked me as i shut the car door for the backseat.
"yes, thank you." i said and made my lips into a thin line.
"we'll see you friday." we shared a small side hug and he made sure i got into the house before i made sure they drove off.
so every two weeks me and him would alternate with kari because it was kind of more convenient that way for us, so we could get whatever we needed to get done while kari still had both parents in her life.
for holidays we'd switch sometimes, but i'd usually kept her for christmas and he had her for thanksgiving then for easter and juneteenth we'd switch every once and a while.
