"mama, we see mani today?" kari asked as she looked at homey through the rear view from her seat.
"i don't know, you don't wanna see your tt's and them instead?" honey asked as she made it to a red light and looked back at kari.
"yes, but i wanna see mani." kari said with a hint of sadness in her voice.
"let me call him then," honey mumbled and exhaled as she pressed his contact in her phone.
boog answered with a quickness, "yeah mama,".
"hey, you busy?" honey asked as she tapped her manicured nails along her steering wheel.
"depends on whatchu call busy, i'm at the spot wit split and nem." he told her.
"okay, well kari wants to see you so we're on the way." honey told him.
although she couldn't see, boog had a huge smile on his face. it had been a few weeks and he missed seeing his favorites girls. him and honey still had very little contact with each other since their "split" and yes, he missed her, but he chose to give her the space he thought she needed.
"bet, kari can hear me?" he asked.
"yeah, hold on." honey placed the phone on speaker, "go ahead."
"k dawg, wassup tink!" boog said and the biggest grin swept across the small girls face.
"mani!" she exclaimed.
"imma see you inna few, you been bein good, right?" boog asked.
"uh huh, miss you." kari told him.
"i missed you too, but i gotta go. imma see you though," boog said before placing his voice back to honey, "hit me when y'all outside."
"okay," honey hung up the phone and looked back at kari through the mirror again and noticed her change in mood.
in the back of her mind the same thing replayed over and over, the thought that she had made a mistake. the mistake of letting him go so fast, but all she wanted was control.
control over herself, mind, body, and soul before allowing someone else in. truthfully she had been there, but allowed herself fall back.
