She was literally trained to be aware of everything and ready for anything. In her world, the unpredictable wasn't welcome and nothing was more unforeseeable than soulmate sensitivities.
It wasn't like one could anticipate waking up to the taste of fried dough and egg when the last thing they ate was neither. Yet that's exactly what Natasha endured, the entire incident throwing the redhead into a fit. She actually thought she'd been drugged or poisoned in her sleep before common sense made its triumphant debut.
The operative commonly known as the Black Widow was the second of Era's soulmates to know of her existence as well as the first to find out (half of) her ethnicity. Honestly, the woman could only taste Chimole and Sere so many times before becoming curious about the dishes. With resources and talents like hers, it was no time before the Russian found herself exiting a plane in the Central American paradise of Belize.
While Natasha didn't meet Era in the country, she did fall in love with it. Every break or vacation she could muster (though they were few and far between) ended up being spent in different parts of the Central American nation. She learned the culture and the customs, all of it making her feel closer to her other half.
If she were being absolutely truthful, it was as close as she was comfortable getting. At the time, the redheaded assassin wasn't a good person. She was a killer, a cold-blooded stone-hearted nightmare for government agencies and leaders alike.
Every 'most wanted' list had her name and, if not her name, her moniker on it. She was the monster that hid in closets or under beds for many. In their eyes, Baba Yaga had nothing on the voluptuous, leather-clad villainess.
That would eventually change. Though Nat didn't know it at the time, her soulmate's presence had planted something in her that wanted to do better — be better. Deep down, the Russian yearned to deserve the love fate had gifted her.
Little did she know, her chance at redemption was on the horizon. All it took was a little hunt, a little negotiation, and the start of a friendship for the opportunity to arise; all it took was the right kind of motivation to make a criminal an agent instead.
