Honestly, the dark-skinned teen had her reasons for not immediately letting the older man know of her existence: the first being the fact that she was only sixteen in 2007 and the second being that she actually liked the music played. It was different, it was unique, and it became the most annoying thing in the world by the time her eighteenth birthday neared.

So, the Tillett woman did what any normal barely-legal youth in her situation would do; she blasted Ne-Yo at sunrise as payback. The billionaire weapons manufacturer was not pleased to say the least, especially not since his jumping from the bed woke the pretty journalist beside him. He was supposed to be in his lab by the time she woke, not half-naked under shared blankets. It threw off his whole schedule — his flow, his routine!

Such frustration quickly led to shock as the music settled over his sleep-addled brain. This wasn't his music; this was someone else's; this was his soulmate's. Anthony Stark, playboy extraordinaire, had finally felt (or rather, heard) his fated love.

It was too good to be true, a pipe-dream he'd thought long gone, yet there he sat as Miss Independent crooned through his mind with a short-lived toothy grin and happy heart. His soulmate was alive. After all this time, he finally knew they were there... and twenty-two years younger than him (or so he assumed).

Perhaps that was why Tony didn't immediately change. Sure, he knew he'd have to someday; he'd always dreamt of having his other half and wasn't about to deny or reject them, but they were so young and quite illegal by Californian law. He had at least two years to get his act together, if he calculated everything properly, and he planned on spending his remaining days of bachelorhood right.

What he didn't plan was getting kidnapped by the Ten Rings out in Afghanistan. As cliché as it always is, being in a life or death situation forces altered outlooks: things that don't seem so big before become giant while that which is massive becomes minuscule. Such epiphanies bring pleading and prayer, and Tony Stark was no exception. If he got out, he promised to change his ways. He'd no longer party or sleep around; he'd make the world better; he'd cherish his life; he'd learn to love.

In truth, Tony had never had a real long-term relationship before. They'd all been quick and painless sporadic one-night stands. They had no meaning — no depth — and that couldn't be the case for the future love of his life. His soulmate deserved more than a scatterbrained player. They deserved the world, and he'd be damned if he didn't give it to them.
