A LIVING CORPSE

He looked up from the side of the road, his face filled with sorrow and covered with dirt. He wasn't okay, that was clear to see.

Aiden walked closer to him, worried and concerned, with a burning need to help and not ruin Henry some more.

He sat down beside the other boy, looking at the blank expression on his face and feeling his own heartbeat increasing from fear.

He placed his hand on the back of Henry's shoulder as a silent way of showing support and hopefully comfort.

Scanning his face, he couldn't tell which part worried him more; it could be the blood dripping down from his forehead, or maybe the red and puffy eyes, who clearly witnessed some horrors. It could also be the fact that Henry sat as still as a dead corpse, making no sounds or moves except for the loud beatings of his heart, assuring that gladly he is not a corpse yet.

At least not physically.

They stayed in the exact same position for a while later, watching as several cars passed them by a few meters away, not coming too close, showing them that life still goes on, even when you want it to stop.

That is until Henry turned his head to the side, so he had a clear view on Aiden's face. He watched the latter struggling to hold his tongue, wanting to say something but too afraid to say the wrong words.

He didn't get a chance to say neither before Henry put his arms around him and brought him close, as close as he could, and giving him the tightest of hugs while letting the few tears he was holding in to spill down on Aiden's sweater, feeling the latter's arms holding him just as tightly.

He didn't need any comfort words, he just needed to know that somebody was there for him. And Aiden will always volunteer to be that somebody.

When they broke apart from the long hug the boys got into Aiden's car and drove back to the house. The second they stepped inside Henry got in the shower and when he got out he ate a meal cooked by Aiden, despite his protests that he wasn't hungry.

He went to bed straight after, deep in his lover's arms as they laid there together, doing their best to forget about tonight.
