she could smell it on his breathe
rancid, sour breathe
alcohol
his gaze is piercing into her
she painfully smiles, "come in, darling"
he smiles, but his smile isn't warm
not welcoming
a sneer
her heart leaps in her chest as he slides past her
"you are tricking me," he suddenly says
she raises a delicate brow
she feels her heart thud once as the alcohol
"playing your little fucking games. everyone knows who you are"
she weakly smiles.
"who am i?"
he sees this as impertinence
he's walking towards her, feet heavy on the wood
her parents are gone
she hopes he hits somewhere where it won't show
at least this time
"i've done nothing but stand by your side" she insists
but her voice is weak
and his gaze is determined
she doesn't have a chance to move
before blood floods into her mouth
engulfing her senses, everything about her
she's spiraling backwards
he's already scooping her up
his warm arms
engulfing her
apologies flooding from his lips
she has heard these
a million times
soft lilting words
week after week
"i'm so sorry"
his voice is hoarse
all she can think
is how much she hates alcohol
she hates it
she hates it
she hates-
her mind fills with the impossible thought
clinging to her brain
she hates him?
no
she hates it
it isn't his fault
