With that, the faery queen steps back, and walks away, disappearing somewhere into the city soon after. The seven of us just stand there for a few minutes, processing everything that just happened. Namjoon rolls back his shoulders, turning to face the building we've been given, and then pushing the door open carefully and peering in. A few seconds later, he steps back out, a wide beam of excitement spreading across his face, two dimples appearing in his cheeks.
"What is it, Joon?" Yoongi questions, raising an eyebrow at his partner, who just tugs him into the building, by the wrist. The rest of us follow behind, a little bemused. But the moment I get beyond the threshold, I understand Namjoon's excitement. The building is much bigger on the inside, which means we have much more space to ourselves, but it's also in a vastly different style to what I was expecting.
The first room we step into is clearly designed for the preparation and consumption of food: in one corner, a small fireplace sits, currently unlit, surrounded by various cooking pots and other utensils, as well as a small poker for tending the fire. There are storage chests against the wall, currently closed. Several comfortable chairs are arranged around the fire, already in a circle to get optimal warmth from it.
On the other side of the room from the fire, there's a long table, with two benches on either side. A wicker basket filled with three loaves of bread sits on the top of that. Right beside the front door, a tall thin pole stands, with extending arms for hanging outdoor clothes on. As the door opens further, adding light into the room, the ceiling comes fully into view. It's simple and white, with dark oak support beams running along it in various areas. The windows are closed, towards the entrance side of the building, and curtains are currently drawn across to maintain privacy.
Directly opposite us, an open set of double doors leads into another room. I only catch a passing glimpse of the contents, but I can just about make out a flight of steps, thin walls, and several other doors. That's how we can tell that this building is larger than expected: that corridor alone indicates at least seven other rooms, which makes a lot of sense.
Jimin immediately removes his cloak and hangs it on one of the coat hanger's many arms. His wings spread out instantly, and a sigh of relief escapes him as he walks further into the room, glancing around in excitement at everything. The rest of us copy his example, getting rid of our cloaks and allowing ourselves to breathe for the first time in what fees like forever.
Seokjin glances around and then heads straight for the fireplace, pulling out his flint and steel to start a fire. Namjoon and Yoongi rush to different chairs. Yoongi just finds the most comfortable-looking one and immediately curls over and falls asleep. Namjoon pulls out a small book and starts to leaf through it, his expression moving from excited to thoughtful as he processes the contents.
Taehyung moves towards a drying rack near the hearth, a bright smile appearing on his face as he pulls it out from the pile of utensils and useful items. Hoseok just steps into the building and instantly sits down on the floor, crossing his legs over each other and lowering his head, his shoulders easing for the first time in ages.
I look around for a moment, struck by the fact that this has been provided for us by the faery queen herself. I'm only pulled out of my reverie by the sound of Taehyung's voice calling me over to where he is, in front of a newly set-up drying rack. I walk over, grabbing his hand for a moment and squeezing it slightly, still a little entranced by everything. He just goes a little red, and then places his medicine bag beside him.
Together, the two of us go through his current collection of herbs, trying to figure out what he's missing and what we might need in the journeys ahead. The fire is gently flickering in the background, as Yoongi begins to snore softy, and Hoseok and Jimin begin to hum behind us. Seokjin and Namjoon are sat closest to each other, beside their curled up partner, as the mage reads and the fire elemental gets out his wood carving and starts whittling away once more. Taehyung and I talk quietly, not majorly worried about being heard but more conscious of disturbing our friends.
