Chapter 2: Out Of Here ✔️

"Everybody okay?" Sonya asks, looking around at the girls who helped.

We all nod. "We're good." I say, still breathing heavy.

I walk into the mapping room followed by Pip and Aris.

"You've got to be kidding me." I say, looking at the one side of the hut.

"What?" Pip asks, looking around the hut.

"How do you like the new decorations?" Harriet asks with a smile, coming towards us. She turns to look at the wall where the Shade we killed is now hung up.

"Um...it's very..." Aris' voice trails off.

"Cool." Sonya says, finishing Aris' sentence while walking in. "Beth's idea."

"So whenever I'm in here I get reminded of the thing that tries to kill me every time I'm in the maze! Amazing." I say, sarcastically while sitting down on one of the chairs.

"Hey, look at this." Aris says, walking up towards the shade. He carefully looks at one of the wings of the beast. I stand up and walk over to him, trying to see what he noticed. "There's a pattern." He trails his finger on lines going over the wings.

"Hey, I know that!" I say, turning and grabbing a paper from one of the drawers. "It's the maze." I say, putting the paper up to the wing. The lines I drew on the paper match the lines on the wing almost exactly. I turn to Sonya. "Get Kat."

"So, you're telling me that all we had to do it kill a shade and it gives us the way out?" Kat asks, looking around the room at us.

"Maybe?" Aris says, looking towards me for help.

"Wait." I say, taking the blade from my leg again and walking over to the shade.

"What is it?" Kat asks, following me towards the Shade.

"You hear that beeping sound don't you?" I ask, glancing at Kat before turning back to the Shade and sticking the blade into it. I make a cut in it before reaching my hand in.

"Glad you're doing that and not me." Sonya says, stepping back.

My hand touches cold metal and I grab whatever it is, pulling it out. I look at the metal piece in my hands before turning back to the room. "Lookie here." I hand the metal to Kat and she turns it over in her hands for a few seconds before looking up at me.

"What is it?" She asks before glancing at the other girls in the room.

I take it back and look at it for a few seconds. "I...don't actually know." I trace the letters on it before looking up at the others. "WICKED."

"WICKED?" Kat asks, looking around the group.

"WICKED is good." Aris mumbles. "Where have I heard that before?" He asks, thinking out loud.

Next to the word 'WICKED' is the number 7. Next to the 7 is a small red button. I push it, trying to figure out what is it. The ground starts shaking, somewhat like an earthquake. All the girls exchange looks, knowing exactly what it is.

"What's happening?!" Aris asks, looking around.

I glance at the others before starting to run outside. The other girls and Aris follow. We stop when we get outside. The three doors that usually stay closed are slowly opening.

"Shades!" A girl yells, pointing to a Shade that's flying out of the maze towards the Cove.

"Guys! I have an idea!" I yell looking at Harriet, Sonya, Kat, and Aris. "Get everybody and meet me by my hammock!" I yell, running off to find everybody.
