"DAD, I decided not to attend school anymore" I said in a whisper while we're taking our breakfast one Saturday morning.
"What did you just say?!" Dad shouted.
I knew. I knew he'll hate the idea but my decision is final.
"I want to drop out" I answered looking at him intently so he would know for sure that I'm serious.
"Why? All of the sudden?" he asked, he's annoyed but I don't care.
"I want to help our family in buying our daily needs"
"So you ended up the idea of dropping out?" my older brother jived in.
"Yes" I replied looking at him.
"Can't you see I'm working for us already? Why make a fuss?" he then asked.
"Isn't it going to be easier for us if I work too and earned money so you can earn for yourself somehow? I don't know, maybe one of these days you decided to get settled and start a family, you're not getting any younger" I factually replied.
"And you know, it's not on my priorities as of now?" he said.
"But that will eventually happen, and also I don't want to hear those shades and resentments, criticisms on how you earned for this family, feed us and not being able to get what you want in return, I'm not a kid anymore, I can help too" I vocalized.
"But, have you already forgot what you promised to our mom, that you'll graduate from college with your Bachelor's Degree" my younger sister pronounced.
" I do but I can do that after some time if I want to, but for now, I need to work so I can help, especially now that we're facing a financial crisis after mom's death" I stated.
A silence happened.
"Whatever you want, if that's what makes you feel assured, fine. I won't meddle but I know for sure you know that it wasn't my fault, you're the one who makes your destiny, the pen is all yours" dad announced.
"I know and I will not put the blame on any of you, it is my decision, after all, it's my own story to write" I answered.
"But if you need us as your characters, we'll be here" my younger sister assured.
I smiled at her as we continue to eat.
"WHAT do you mean, you're leaving the country?" my older brother asked.
Closing the laptop, I search for his gaze and answered "Yes, and what about it?"
"I know dad let you work for this family but working out of the country is quite not okay for me!"
"And you also know that I don't need your approval because dad is okay with it"
"He said okay? No in a way he would agree with your idea"
"But he did, remember the last time at the dining table he said he won't meddle? He did. And yes, it was my story to tell, it's my pen after all" I replied.
"What made you decide to do these things, Sky?" he asked.
"Cloud, it's for the best. Not just for me, for dad, but also for Heaven. For our whole family. I made this decision for our family" I answered.
And I wish I made the right decision choosing what's the best for our family, for me.
