Chapter 3- We're In This Together

Rapunzel sat next to Eugene and Cassandra on the front of the caravan. She was thinking about what Maya had said. Not many knew the story of the Sundrop, especially for someone outside of Corona. Although Maya had a third eye. As the sun lowered in the sky, Rapunzel stood and hoisted herself onto the roof of the caravan. Varian was sitting near the edge, staring off at nothing in particular. Rapunzel grabbed the bag with the Texts and heaved them up to the roof as well.

So, Rapunzel said through her mind. Varian looked up and over at her. Rapunzel pulled the first Text out of the bag. She handed it to him. I thought you might want to read these.

He took the book slowly, narrowing his eyes slightly at Rapunzel. But he tore his eyes away and flipped to the first entry in the book.

"Hmm, this part isn't in code." he said, mostly to himself.

Can you read it aloud? Rapunzel asked. He hesitated. But then began to read.

"'I am ashamed to have once called Zhan Tiri a friend. She, Tromus, Sugracha, and Gothel have all gone with her.'"

Rapunzel gasped quietly. 'Gothel?' Varian nodded. She's the one who took me from my parents. It all makes sense now.

Varian raised an eyebrow but didn't ask any further questions.

"'Her power hungry nature has swayed those weak minded fools.' Wow he sounds a bit like a jerk." Varian laughed. "'I have a feeling Zhan will do anything to get her hands on the Sundrop and Moonstone.' Wait. I know you are the Sundrop, but Moonstone?" he turned to Rapunzel. She smiled. Seeing him like this, full of questions, made her heart full. But it also hurt.

I don't know but maybe it is tied to the- she stopped. Varian flattened his brow.

"The black rocks? C'mon, princess, it's not like mentioning them will set me off."

Rapunzel hugged her knees to her chest.

Varian, I-

"Nope."

Eugene unhooked Max from the cart and brought him over to where Fidela was resting. The sun was setting, which meant it was time to set up camp. He went over to the campfire where Rapunzel was sitting. She didn't even look up when he sat down.

"Hey, Blondie?" she glanced up at him but looked back to the fire. "Are you okay? You've been quiet the entire ride." she sighed.

"Sorry, Eugene, I've just been thinking a lot." she said quietly. He placed a hand on her shoulder.

"It's about Varian, isn't it?" he asked. Rapunzel nodded. "Sunshine, you know that was an accident. You have to forget about it."

Rapunzel's head shot up. "Forget about it? No. No, I can never forget about it. About him!"

Eugene realized his mistake far too late.

"O-oh no, I didn't mean it like that." he stuttered. Raps closed her eyes and got up.

"I'm going to go for a walk." she looked to the side for a sec then began to walk. Why did she look to the side, that was weird. Eugene thought.
