Zuko was in trouble. He was going all the way to Vancouver to stay with his best friend, Suki. He had gotten on the plane, done some homework, had a nap, and landed.

He hadn't seen Suki in 2 years and he wasn't prepared for what he saw.

Her hair was cut so that I just brushed her shoulders. She was wearing a green halter top, with mom jeans and sneakers. And she was much taller.

Now, as she was hugging Zuko, he realized that she was almost as tall as him. The last time he had seen her, she was up to his chest.

And for some reason, the sight of her made his heart do backflips in his chest.

"It's so good to see you again," Suki said, "How was your flight?"

"Nice to see you too, and the flight was good. I mostly slept."

She laughed, a breathy sort of laugh that made Zuko want to melt, and walked over to the luggage belt.

"So, you're studying poetry?"

"Yeah," He awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck, "Its not easy, but I like it. You're studying dance, right?"

She nodded, "Yep!"

Zuko inwardly yelled at himself, why was he being so awkward! He'd known Suki for years! They were best friends since grade 10.

"Oh, there's my suitcase," He made to grab for it, but Suki beat him to it.

"It's heavy," She said, "What did you pack? Rocks?"

He laughed sarcastically as they made their way out of the airport and to her car.

Suki's apartment was nice. It wasn't too big, but it wasn't too small. It had two bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen, and a living room. The perfect place for two 20 year olds.

"Make yourself at home," Suki said as she showed Zuko to his room, "Feel free to use whatever you want. Just don't cook."

Zuko rolled his eyes at her teasing. Sure he accidentally set her kitchen on fire once, but he was 17 for God's sake!

"Thanks, Suki. I really appreciate you letting me stay here for the summer."

"I'm the one who should be thanking you, I asked you to come remember?"

"Yeah, but now I have an excuse not to go to my dad's stupid summer parties that he insists I go to every year."

"Well, whenever you need an escape, I'm here," She put a comforting hand on his shoulder, "I'm going to go start dinner now, and not burn the house down."

"I was seventeen!" He yelled as she walked out of the room, laughing.

He couldn't help but chuckle silently to himself, Suki's laughter was contagious.

***

Dinner was nice. Suki had made bean casserole (Zuko's favourite) and they talked about all the crazy things that had happened since the last time they spoke.

"So," Suki said through a mouthful of food, "What your saying is, you dated the founder of one of your school's programs and so when you broke up you dropped out."

"I didn't drop out," Zuko clarified for the millionth time, "It was an after school club, and I just stopped showing up."

"That's basically dropping out."

Zuko gave an exasperated sigh, he wasn't going to win this fight.

"Any romantic drama with you lately?"

Her eyes went a little wider at his question, and she seemed more nervous.

"Not really."

Obviously, Zuko knew she was lying. He wasn't that stupid.

"I know you're lying, Suki."

"Fine," She sighed, "I just don't want you to freak out, or get mad."

"Why would I do that?"

"Because I'm dating Sokka."

Zuko froze mid-bite. She was dating Sokka. Sokka, who they had went to high school with. Sokka, who Zuko had dated until senior year. Sokka, who had pretty much broken Zuko's heart.

Zuko was in trouble. He had a crush on his best friend. And she was dating his ex.

A/N I'm very much obsessed with zukki so of course I had to write a fic for them. Let me know if you like it so far! I'll try to post the next chapter soon (I already have it written, just need to proofread it)
