My arm pulled her in as her head rested against my shoulder. I smiled at our big family. Even though some people at this table are a bit pessimistic, I won't let them ruin it for Jada. She's been way too shaky about this dinner. It was my job to keep her calm and happy.
Our parents exchange each other's names and continue on an amusingly conversation. It seemed smooth and calm. I was surprised because my mother disapproves of Jada.
After my direct observation of our parents, my eyes move to Jada. She looked absolutely gorgeous in her black dress. She hates when I buy stuff for her but I bought her a dress anyways. Which I had to sneak into her suitcase, so she wouldn't tell me to bring it back. It was all worth it because she looks delicious tonight. The dress complemented her curves. Her brown mounds peeked from the top of her dress and her gold necklace dipped between them. Her lips glittered with a thick liquid and her teeth was as white as pearls. Her skin glistened as the sun lowered into the purple, pink horizon.
"So, Elijah. What kind of future do you want with our daughter?"My head pops up to look at my soon to be mother in law. She gives me a kind hearted smile.
"Well..."
Shit, We haven't said anything about this. I mean I've thought about it but I didn't know how Jada felt.
"I would like another baby. If Jada doesn't feel ready then we don't have to."
Jada looks up at me with coco sparked eyes. Her beauty illuminates from the lit candles.
"I wanna have more children." Jada says, grasping my hand. I peck her lips but feel eyes poking holes at the back of my head. I turn to catch Paige giving death stares.
It seems that our relationship has not clicked her in head yet. She takes every chance to shit on Jada or try to intervene. It's so fucking bothersome.
"Do you think you're ready for your own children, Jada?" My mother asks.
"Yeah, do you think you're ready?" Paige adds on.
I roll my eyes and feed Miya some tomato soup. She gives me a cheeky smile and continued to play on her tablet. My little girl was dressed by Jada and her mother. She wore an adorable white dress and her hair was in a small bun. I smile but feel a little sense of gloom. She's growing up and it hurts.
"I know I am." Jada says with a stern voice. Paige scoffs and shakes her head.
Jada's mother feels a sense of tension between the two and questions if everything's alright.
As Jada goes to say something, Paige interrupts her. "Yes, ma'am. I just questioning her. I mean she's 22 years old. She's basically a baby compared to Elijah. Have you, Mr. and Mrs. Campbell, thought this relationship was going too fast?"
"Better yet, do you think Jada is too young for Elijah?" Paige adds.
I clench my teeth as veins appeared on my neck.
"Well, Elijah is a good man. I think this relationship is amazing. I just don't think you should be asking these questions. It's highly disrespectful," Jada's mother says. Her father nods his head as he furrows his eyebrows.
"Why does it matter to you?" Jada asks.
"I'm part of the family and your always around my daughter." Paige snapped.
"Doesn't matter. You shouldn't be disrespectful to my sister," Jaz (Jada's sister) says. She looks Paige up and down, earning a scoff from her.
It's embarrassing for Paige to even start something in front of Jada's own parents.
"Paige, you've said a lot for today. I think it's time to call it a night."
"I'm just getting started. I mean I have plentiful of things to say. Maybe I should start with the fact you both slept outside my house." Jada's face drops when she hears Paige. Her parents are left speechless. I mean everyone was. How could she scoop so low?
"PAIGE!" My mother yells. This has to be the third she's ever yelled at Paige. The first time was when young adult Paige came to dinner drunk. The second time was when Paige cussed at me. All those moments but it wasn't as bad as now. By her voice, you could tell she furious with Paige.
Jada stutters to speak. Her little hand within my grasp, shook. "I-I'm sorry that I did that but you have no right to say that in front of everyone." Jada snapped. Jada pulls from my embrace and leaves the table. My first instinct is to apologize to her parents for the inconvenience.
"Don't worry. I have your daughter."
My mother goes to stop me but I shake my head in disapproval. Paige sips on her white wine with a devious smirk.
"I'll deal with you later."
As I walked away, I could hear Jaz grumbled," Crazy that you come after her but you're the one who cheated." Jada's mother and Jaz continued to speak back to Paige. I did absolutely nothing to stop it because Paige needs her ass handled.
I rushed to our villa, before Jada made any irrational decisions. I just hoped she didn't leave like last time.
