Mark woke up in a cold sweat, trying to calm down as he began focusing on the loud crashing noises coming from the outside his room.
Being the curious boy he was, he decided to go check it out.
Mark opened his door, quietly making his way to the livingroom.
What did he expect to see? He honestly didn't know, but he didn't expect to see his father, lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
Unfortunately, from his state of shock, he didn't register the loud footsteps behind him.
Until it was too late.
...
Mark blinked groggily, not being able to focus on his surroundings.
"Mark? Baby?" A woman's voice cut through his foggy mind, causing some of his vision to start clearing up.
Mark could now recognize the woman as his mother, who was dabbing a tissue at the corners of her eyes.
"Oh, thank god, you're awake" His mother smiled, throwing away the now damp tissue.
"Where am I?" Mark asked, not recognizing the yellow walls of the room.
"Ah, the doctors said amnesia was a side effect" She sighed, taking one of Mark's hands into her own.
"You're in the hospital Mark, and I don't want to scare you, but we're gonna have to move"
"Why?" Mark winced as he tried to sit up.
"Because, uh, there was a very bad person, and he um..I'm sorry, I can't say it"
Mark watched with worry as his mother began sobbing uncontrollably. Not even tissues were enough.
She left without saying anymore, leaving Mark alone.
Mark was now confused and worried. What exactly happened while he was unconscious?
He looked around him, there was nothing much. It was just your typical kid patient room.
Mark soon discovered there was a remote attached to his bed, which meant there was a TV somewhere.
But the strange thing was, Mark couldn't find i- oh wait, nevermind, it was in the corner.
Mark turned the TV on, flipping through channels until he found the news station.
"This just in, we're getting delayed coverage from last week's incident" the reporter paused briefly before continuing.
"Last thursday, a family in the suburbs was attacked by who we believe to be the infamous lion king killer"
"The father of two boys, Gyeol-Man Lee, and his youngest son, Kevin, were murdered"
"New reports show that Kevin was not only murdered, but molested. Forensic scientists say they happened at the same time"
"As we go on further into the investigation, we'd like to send our remorse to the Lee family"
There was a moment where the screen was black, before it showed some pictures and home videos of the people mentioned.
Mark stared confusedly at the screen. He had seen those people somewhere before, but where.
Was it at the grocery store? Probably not. What about the library? No, he would've remembered that. Maybe.
Why couldn't he remember them? What was so forgettable about them that he couldn't even pull a sliver of them out of his brain?
Mark thought a moment more, stomach sinking as he replayed the last name of the victims in his head. Lee.
