"y/n!" doyoung calls out to you as you were dragging him away from the cafe. "you're not okay are you?"

you stop in your tracks. still holding doyoung's hand, you don't look behind you, where he is.

"it's him isn't it? that jaehyun." he asks and you just nod.

he lets out a big sigh. "we could have declined if you're so uncomfortable about it."

"i'll do a good job." you say in a low voice. "i'll make sure of it." you let go of his hand. "sorry."

"it's fine." he ruffles your hair then grabs your hand again. "you're probably hungry huh? let's get subway or something..."

jaehyun sees you two from a distance. he tried to chase after you after you went out from the cafe.

"are they dating?" taeyong says from behind jaehyun.

"i don't know." his voice was weak.

jaehyun stares at the hand you shook. the same hand that's holding doyoung's right now. he wonders if this was the same pain you felt whenever you see him date another girl.

so it's like this huh.

"god, running off like that. don't just leave your stuff next time ok?" dasom says after coming out the cafe, jaehyun and taeyong's stuff in tow. "oh? they're dating?" she asks after seeing you and doyoung from a distance.

"i hope not." jaehyun says.
"huh? why do you care?" dasom teases.

"yah! that's his precious ex girlfriend." taeyong whispers to dasom.
"oh shit really?" she exclaims before covering her mouth. "wait, so that's why you're so awkward" she let's out a laugh.

"yeah yeah. make fun of my pain." jaehyun shrugs before taking his stuff from dasom then walks towards his car.

"you're not touching your sub." doyoung says.
you give doyoung a look then hesitantly take a bite from your food.

"mmmmm...gooood." you say.
"you're so fake." doyoung says.

"are you not over him?" he asks. you freeze at this question.

am i not?

"ofcourse i'm over it." you say.
"it. but not him." he clarifies.

"same thing." you say quietly. "whatever. i'll be professional so don't worry okay?"

"oh, i'm not worried about you. it's him. he seemed like a nervous wreck earlier." doyoung says.

and so are you.

"you'll do a great job." he tells you with a smile.

you almost forgot that you like doyoung. he's in front of you right now, comforting you like he always does. you can't help but feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.

and then you remember grabbing his hand so suddenly earlier. you've done things like this before, but not so abrupt, and not in public. you wonder if you both looked like a couple earlier.

you remember that he held your hand too, except he intertwined your fingers. you suddenly felt the heat in your cheeks rise.

he sees you. you look red and shy. he feels a pang in his chest thinking that you're blushing because of jaehyun.

maybe this is a battle i already lost to. he thought.
