you again | nct doyoung & jaehyun

"she'll be here in a while." doyoung says. sitting across people in a cafe near their office. today is the day they meet with marketing from ivy.

"it's fine! we got here too early too." taeyong says. "speaking of which is jaehyun coming?" he whispers to dasom, just not loud enough for doyoung to hear.

"he's coming, he just texted me he's right around the corner." dasom says.

"oh someone else is joining us?" doyoung asks.
"yeah. he's almost here, he's part of our marketing team." dasom says. "jaehyun hey!" dasom tries to wave to someone behind doyoung. "huh who's he talking to?" she says.

jaehyun?

doyoung turns and is surprised to see y/n as well. seems you and jaehyun are both facing each other.

"y/n?" doyoung says.
"wait what?" taeyong asks, surprised to hear your name come out of his mouth.

"y/n...is part of my team..." doyoung trails off, understanding the situation they're in.

taeyong stares at him in disbelief. "well how bout it. what a small world."

doyoung turns again when he hear the chimes sound off signaling that someone came in.

you and jaehyun approach the table, an awkward atmosphere evident between them.

"hi doyoung...you're here early." you speak weakly.

"great! we're all here let's get started then." dasom excitedly says. "this is a big project, and we're looking to partner with an agency for a looong time." she says.

"yeah. uhm, we hope you're...up for it." taeyong says.

doyoung looks at you waiting for what you have to say.

you contemplate everything. try to wrap your head around the possibility of working with the same person who broke your heart 2 years ago, who is in front of you right now. you we're a nervous wreck at this point. what are you going to do? you're also aware that you're falling behind on potential clients and you need to close a deal with someone soon or else you'll miss your target for this quarter...

"great. we'll do our best to deliver." you take your hand out for a handshake.

first with dasom, then taeyong, and then him. the hand that's too familiar it's starting to hurt. the same hand you promised to hold for a long time. the same hand that let go of yours...

you take off your hand from jaehyun's first. doyoung does the same and shakes everyone's hands.

jaehyun looks at you with longing eyes. he's happy but he can't seem to smile seeing you visibly unhappy about this whole situation.

"jaehyun?" dasom calls out to him. "ah yes,uhm so we want to launch a new campaign since we're partnering with a few underground designers..." he continues to explain.

doyoung feels that you're uncomfortable so he tries his best to keep up, seeing that you're not 100% focused.

after 30 mins the meeting is coming to a close. "we're glad you reached out to us." you say. "we'll send a pitch next week, then we can start from there. please feel free to send us a timeline so we can adjust our schedules accordingly."

"yes! we'll just coordinate with everyone then send it to you about next week as well." dasom says. "you can email jaehyun anytime, he's spearheading this project."

"y-yeah, c-can i please have your card?" you ask him without being able to look him in the eyes.

"o-ofcourse!" he stutters as well.

taeyong and doyoung are uncomfortable as well, seeing their friends stuttering at this setting is unusual since they're both confident most of the time.

"we'll see each other next week i guess." jaehyun says.

you bow to them, and they do so too. jaehyun bows 90 degrees. you and doyoung both raise your heads, so does taeyong and dasom, except for jaehyun who's still bowing.

taeyong sees jaehyun's clenching fists.

jaehyun doesn't want to look up. if he does, tears might fall out.

"he does this all the time hahahaha." taeyong lets out a nervous laugh.

jaehyun finally looks up and your eyes meet.

"we better get going then." you say.

"yes, thank you so much for your time!" dasom says as you and doyoung are about to go.

you gather your things then walk away. you grab doyoung's hand as you do so, and jaehyun catches this.

doyoung looks back one last time and sees jaehyun staring right at him.
