The elevator slid open and FRIDAY announced the floor, but Peter wasn't listening as he skidded out and thundered down the hallways. Doors slid open and he came to an abrupt stop on the landing pad, nearly crashing into Tony.
Tony cast him a grin, "Couldn't wait for the others?"
Peter tipped his head to the side, "What others?"
If it was possible, Tony's grin got even bigger. Peter narrowed his eyes suspiciously, trying to force his dad to talk through sheer force of will. Tony, unfortunately, remained silent.
The doors to the pad slid open and Peter froze as Viv and Flash's yelling met his ears over the top of Enfys giving directions.
Horrified, Peter locked eyes with Tony, who was currently imitating the Cheshire Cat. He gestured to Peter's class and gave a slight bow, "The others."
Peter caught his arm, "Don't catch their attention!" he hissed.
"You're already doing a pretty good job of that, kid."
Abruptly dropping his father figure's arm, Peter backpedalled as fast as he could while Flash aggressively tried to lock eyes over Viv's head. Fortunately, most of his class was too busy trying to get Enfys to tell them what was going on and he slipped into the back of the crowd next to Ned with minimal attention.
When Flash refused to look away MJ stepped in front of Peter and caught his eye instead. Flash was quick to look away when faced with the unblinking immovable force that was Michelle Jones.
"Attention Midtown!" Enfys said from at the front of the group, waving for attention.
The students settled down with a bit of help from Ms Cassano, even though a handful were still murmuring about Tony's presence. On the horizon, a dark speck was rapidly approaching.
"Now," Enfys said, "students of Midtown, it is my pleasure to introduce to you, Mr Tony Stark!"
She made a grand sweeping gesture in the general direction of Tony, who seemed to be basking in the attention.
"Welcome, welcome!" Tony spoke over the chatter of the class that inevitably rose, "As I imagine you all should know, I am Tony Stark, the one-and-only Ironman, and owner of Stark Towers.
"As your class is currently participating in one of our more... exclusive field trips, you would've been meeting me later today anyway. And will have to pleasure of meeting me again then, as planned!
"Unfortunately, though, this impromptu session is not about me, and is rather about my good friend and co-worker, King T'challa of Wakanda!"
The ship that had been steadily approaching the towers paused above the landing pad, slowly lowering itself onto the concrete as Tony gave a dramatic, open-armed welcome to it, his back to the students of Midtown. Its door hissed open, ramp lowering to reveal T'challa in simple, dark grey suit, a Dora Milaje warrior framing each side in Western civilian clothing. Gasps rose from the students.
They strode down the ramp.
"Mr Stark," T'challa greeted, automatically switching to more formal address at their audience.
"Your majesty," Tony grinned. The two men briefly but firmly clasped arms, after which Tony turned back to face the present high schoolers.
"Your majesty," Tony said again, "these are students from Midtown High, the best in the school when it comes to technology, and they are currently here on a field trip. Tomorrow they'll be meeting the Avengers, and I figured that as you'll be meeting them anyway, it couldn't hurt for them to be here for your arrival. Another small way to help expose the Western world to Wakanda."
T'challa still had confusion painted on his face, but that was quickly smoothed away when he spotted Peter standing in the crowd. Peter wanted to vanish into the floor.
"Very well," T'challa said, "a wise move on your part, and I appreciate your consideration."
Footsteps echoed from the ramp and Shuri appeared next to her brother. She whispered something to T'challa, then to the Dora Milaje closest to her, who nodded in approval.
Suddenly Shuri was approaching the students, and they, startled, moved out of her way. Carving a path straight towards... Peter. Of course.
Shuri's arm wrapped around Peter's shoulders and she grinned at him, giving a nod of acknowledgement to MJ and Ned as well.
"Come, fellow creature, we have things to make and problems to cause!" Shuri declared, tugging Peter after her as she made for the door and rest of the tower. Flash, in his never-ending wisdom, seemed about to interrupt but the Dora Milaje who Shuri had talked to (and who had followed her through the crowd), gave him a harsh look and his mouth snapped shut.
The doors slid open and Shuri pulled the party of three after her, practically running down the hallway. Somewhere behind them, Enfys was calling the class back into order. She was cut off as the door closed.
And all Peter could think of was:
Shit. I just got associated with Wakandian royalty.
Ta-da! Update provided!
I am moving updates to Saturday, I have other things that need updating on Sunday and I don't want to do everything on one day.
You know, I originally started this story planning to write, maybe, five chapters and abandon it forever but I like it too much and apparently other people like it a lot, so I've forced myself to sit down and properly plan what's happening. Hopefully the plot will actually be good, rather than me knowing what's happening maybe a chapter in advance and hoping things work out.
In other news, as I am typing this we are currently at 29949 reads & 965 votes. Thank you so much, I never could have fathomed such an overwhelming response to me just writing the exact field trip fic that I really wanted to see but couldn't find!
I am aware that there are a few original characters in this story, and while I hope I'm managing them well, I know that it can be hard to keep track of everyone. While I've been off for, what? 3 months I think? I've created a word document with all the details for the OCs like ethnicity, full name, relationships, debut chapters, current appearances etc. As a thanks for the support & love I am open to uploading an edited version of that document in a fresh chapter, but I'll only do that if there's interest.
So, what do you think? Yay or nay? Comment on this paragraph!
Thank you again, and happy Easter!
