I wake up to the sound of my phone alarm ringing in my ears. As the alarm continues to chime, I place my hand all over my bedside table and touch everything except my phone. When I finally find my phone it falls onto the ground and I let out a loud groan.

I reach down, grab my phone and finally turn off the alarm.

I lie on my bed, staring at the roof, for a few minutes before pulling off my blanket and getting up.

I groggily start preparing for school. After getting ready, I walk up to the mirror and sigh.

After scanning my horrible features, I grab my phone and headphones and put my playlist on shuffle. I turn the music up loud and put my headphones on.

Headphones on.
Volume up.
And ignore the world.

I walk into the chilly winter air and I go to the bus stop, only to see that there is no bus there. I check my phone and I realise that I've missed the bus by ten minutes. My face falls because this means that I have to walk to school in the cold. I wrap my arms around my body as the ugly uniform gives me no warmth at all, a button up long sleeved collared white shirt, a black and magenta striped skirt that comes up to the knees, black pulled up socks, a blazer, and a tie. It sounds like a lot but it doesn't keep you warm enough, especially for days like this.

When I walk into the heated hallway, my muscles instantly relax and I let out a breath that I didn't even know I was holding. I walk to my locker and put in my combination: 18-4-13.

When it clicks open and I open the locker, I sigh when I see the pictures of my only two friends at this school stuck up on my locker. Amanda and Tess. They are sisters and they went to Japan for two months, it's been three weeks so far but I miss them like crazy. Of course I know other people in the school and in my class, but I'm very shy and conservative, so I don't talk to them. At least I appear to be.

I'm actually an outgoing and bubbly person on the inside, but on the outside it doesn't show, not even with my family and friends. Nobody really knew that I was this crazy, jumpy person because all they see is shy and conservative. Four years ago, it showed. Everyone saw how jumpy I was, but they always told me to quiet down or stop being so crazy. I felt like everyone was kind of telling me to not be who I was, so I started being shy on the outside. The people that knew my craziness, kinda forgot because it was disguised with conservative. We live in a society today that tells us to be ourselves and be true to who we are, but then when you show the real you, society tells us to be different.

I check the timetable for the first two subjects of the day. Science and maths. I quietly groan as I pull out the books that I need. I stand outside the classroom in line with everyone else, waiting for the teacher to arrive. I go to a very strict school.

When the teacher arrives, the class files into the classroom. I sit at the back at an empty desk, and no one comes to sit next to me. It's because I'm so shy and I never really talk to anyone else, so they don't really know me at all. I normally keep quiet during class unless my friends are there, then we quietly chat to each other. I'm fine with sitting at the back with no one, it's peaceful and no one can pay attention to you. I never really liked attention.

When I arrived home, I started to head straight up to my room but I was stopped by my mum calling me.

"Chloe, we are having a family meeting! Please come to the dining room! " she yells.

I throw my bag down by the bottom of the stair case and walk into the dining room. I can tell by my parents' expressions that they are trying their best to hide a smile. Michael ( my brother ) on the other hand is studying their faces, and he looks quite confused.

I sit down next to Michael and he exchanges me a weird look. I just let out a small laugh in return and turn my head to my parents.

" So what did you want to talk to us about? " I ask my parents.

My mum just grins a big toothy grin and looks at my dad.

I furrow my eyebrows and then my dad finally speaks up, " We are moving to California! "
