Kyle POV
We reached Meridian after about 12 straight hours of walking. Everyone was extremely tired, and just as we stopped, both of the jaeger's used the last of our power cells. Atlas Destroyer unceremoniously fell on his face, where as Matthew and I gently sat Glacier Fist down by a crumbled building with a semi-intact roof.
"Kaye, we have no power in the power cell battery. Where can we get one?" I ask our AI, Kaye.
"As we are in Meridian, it would be most likely that power cells will be in the Center. Would you like directions to get there?" Kaye informs us.
"Nah, we got it, Kaye. We've been there before, it'll be a piece of-" Matthew says, but I cut him off.
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves, little brother. We first have to get there, and there's no way that Meridian doesn't have some sort of kaiju here, big or small. I like the attitude, but let's also add in a pinch of logic, eh? Just the way..." I prompt. Matthew smiles. Kaye detaches the drift harnesess. We fall a short way, landing on the floor below. My brother turns to me.
"Just the way Mom and Dad made us, we make our own choices that determine the outcome of the recipe of life," Matthew finishes for me. Our family motto has been in our family for generations, Matthew and I far from the first to hear it and take it's true meaning to heart. During this war against the kaiju, it'll be more important than ever to keep it's message close. I open my arms, pulling him into a hug. After a few heart-felt moments, we break off, bumping fists and heading for the back of the con-pod. The mystery girl waits by the door. I give her a smile, walking through the back. We emerge from the top of the head, the city laid out in front of us. Memories of the last time my brother and I were here flood through me, the kaiju so clearly in my mind's eye.
"You guys coming down or what?" Hayley calls up from the ground. She and Taylor are waiting by the chin of Atlas. As Matthew, the girl, and I slid and make our way down, a soft creamy gleam catches my eye. At first, I ignore it, but then I remember something. Or rather, someone. I jump down, landing on my feet with ease. Matthew and the girl land behind me, but I'm already running towards the spot where I saw the thing. Hayley and Matthew call out to me, but their voices become a faint whisper. I turn, then climb over a large pile of rubble. My foot slips, sending my body tumbling painfully down the rocky pile. One hits my face hard, another slams into my side. When I finally stop, the pain is reaching throughout my whole body. I slowly reach out for support when my fingers touch cool metal. My eyes instanstly travel to where my fingers are, then I feel every last inch of my body completely stop. Before I can stop myself, I shriek, crawling backwards to gain distance from the site in front of me. Strong, yet gentle hands grab me, pulling me up. Before I can react, I'm hugged, the soft blonde hair of Hayley blowing slightly to the side. I hug her back, the sight of what I just saw ripping into me like a butcher slaughters his meat. Tears burn my eyes, my breathing becoming more and more shallow. My legs buckle, bringing both me and Hayley down. Finally, I can't keep the tears in anymore, and I break down in the arms of the girl who has had my heart since I first knew her name. The sounds of running reach my ears, Taylor, Matthew, and the girl reaching us. My body racks with sobs, the sound muffled by Hayley's shoulder. She gently rubs my back, holding me close. Taylor and Matthew join in, completely encircling me in caring, loving arms. After a few moments, we break off, my sobs becoming quiet sniffles now. I stand, Hayley staying at my side with her arm around mine, her arm brushing against my own. Before anyone asks, I clear my throat.
"When we were getting down from Glacier, something caught my eye for a split second. I thought nothing of it as first, until I realized what color it was." I look my friends in the eye. "It was a cream color. I only know one thing that could've caught my eye like that and matched that color as perfect as it did," I explain, my gaze resting on Matthew. His eyes grow wide. "I ran to check, hoping that I was wrong, but just as I reached the top of that rubble pile, I slipped and fell down. When I stopped and reached my hand out to stand up, I felt metal. I looked up, and I saw the... the..." my voice cracks. "I saw Zeus Fury. The head at least. And in the head there's a huge hole. And I saw inside th-their bodies, handing from the harnesses. It was like they had been sucked of all muscle and all that was left was literally skin and bones. I saw them, Matthew. I saw our parent's dead bodies." I brace for Matthew to tell me I'm lying, but it never comes. Instead, he just stares in the direction of the rubble, not moving for a few seconds, then saying,
